· AAAFSA’s Social Events Chairperson has been recently vacated and we are seeking for a replacement. This position was previously filled by Reed Rallojay. He left the university at the end of August to pursue another opportunity. If you are interested in learning more about what it means to be a Social Events Chairperson, please let me know! Primary responsibilities include reserving rooms for our monthly luncheons and ordering food. This is a great opportunity to expand your skills and knowledge and along the way making great friends! Please feel free to reach out to me or the other AAAFSA officers if you have any questions and/or would like to express interest.

· Dear Friends,
On behalf of the 2017 Austin Asian American Film Festival (AAAFF), “Opening Night Host Committee”, we would like to invite you to join us for a reception and an opening night special feature on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 5:45 p.m. at the Austin Film Society (AFS) Cinema at 6406 N Interstate 35 Frontage Rd #3100, Austin, TX 78752.
To help celebrate the human spirit of strength and courage, this year the opening night will feature “The Chinese Exclusion Act” Documentary by Ric Burns and Li-Shin Yu. This special feature is co-presented by Asian American Cultural Center and KLRU (our local PBS Station).
Amy traveled to San Francisco last May for its premiere and she was deeply touched by the faith, courage and strength of so many people depicted in the documentary who braved the racial divide:
· The Chinese Americans who placed their faith on the law of our land to file over 10,000 civil rights cases to safeguard their rights since the late 19th century.
· The non-Chinese American legal profession who had the courage to represent those cases and challenge the unfairness of our justice system.
· The non-Chinese American Supreme Court Justices who had the strength to uphold the integrity of our Constitution.
We are certain you will be profoundly proud to witness the human spirit of so many before us who provided the strong broad shoulders for us to stand tall as the citizens of “The Land for The Free and The Home of The Brave”. The documentary is a truly moving human story we should all be proud of.
We are looking forward to welcoming you on Thursday, the 7th at the reception at 5:45 p.m. Seating will begin at 6:15 p.m. and program will start at 6:45 p.m. The admission is FREE and RSVP is required at the following link:
