Please note: there will be some fairly major changes for Aikido classes during the fall semester:
- New class times: For Fall 2014 our hours will change. This is due to room scheduling for the RSC building.
- Beginning class will be held 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursdays
- Intermediate/Advanced class will be held 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- We begin this schedule Tuesday, Aug. 26th, though we don’t officially have the room until Thursday Aug. 28th – so we may have to share the space next Tuesday.
- Classes will be in RSC, not BEL: as during the summer, classes will be held in RSC 1.138, not in BEL 904. This is the Rec Sports Building.
- We do not have a room reservation for Sunday classes, though presumably we can still meet and share the room with others. More on this soon.
- Beginning class starts Tuesday Sept. 2nd.
- New website URL: http://sites.utexas.edu/aikido/. Same information, just a different address.
Phew… I think that’s all. Hope to see you on the mat soon.

During this coming break between semesters there will be no Aikido classes. Unfortunately there will be construction/renovation in both of the available rooms, so there will be no “short hours” for this break. Thursday’s classes (August 7th) will be the last classes until Sunday August 24th.
We’ll send out notice about location and class times for Fall semester as soon as the dust settles.
July 23, 2014
This Thursday, the 24th, we’ll have our semesterly Aikido pizza party at 8:00 PM at Conan’s (https://goo.gl/maps/IiRus). Pizza’s on the club; it’s a good chance to get to know the people you’ve been knocking down all this time.
There won’t be an Intermediate/Advanced class that day, but there will be a Beginner’s class. We’ll pack up after the beginner’s class and head over to Conan’s; It’s walkable from the RSC building, but rides will be available.
Hope to see you there,

Note: the information below pertains to our change of venue for the summer and part of Fall, 2014. Since we’re in a different building some folks have had trouble getting into the RSC building…
So our student rep Krystal has been battling the UT bureaucracy, trying to make sure everyone can get in the door for Aikido (thanks Krystal!). But the bureaucrats are tough and even Krystal’s formidable powers haven’t been able solve all the problems. However we do, at least, have some clarification and a bit of good news.
Anyone who is not a registered student will need to acquire a rec sports membership, purchased at Gregory Gymnasium during business hours (9:00 – 5:00 on weekdays). I apologize for mis-information in previous emails. Prices vary, please see http://www.utrecsports.org/about/memberships. Note that if you know someone who can sponsor you that will lower the price, and that a Rec Sports membership gets you access to some excellent UT facilities.
The silver lining is that we will be able to have some “Community Classes”, where folks from outside UT can come train without buying a Rec Sports membership. If you’re interested in coming to a community class, please email Krystal at email@example.com so we can put you on the list. Community classes approved so far will be on Sundays, on the following dates: 9/14, 9/28, 10/12, in our regular room, RSC 1.138, at our regular class time of 12:30 – 2:00 PM.
Sorry for the troubles people have had getting in, but hope that this email at least gives some clarity, and maybe some chances to train at UT for our friends in other dojos.

BEL 904, our usual location, will be undergoing renovation for an un-specified time. All Aikido classes will be held at the usual times (Beginner’s Class Tuesday/Thursday 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM, Intermediate/Advanced Class Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Open mat/all skill levels Sunday 12:30 PM – 2:00 PM), just in the new location.
If you are asked for identification when entering RSC please inform the desk attendant that you are there for Aikido; they should let you through. Typically a student ID or Rec Sports membership is needed to enter RSC, but special accommodations are made for our classes.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
We’ll get back to our regular schedule: Tuesdays/Thursdays 6:30pm – 8:00pm (Beginning Class), Tuesdays/Thursdays 8:00pm – 9:00pm (Intermediate/Advanced Class), and Sundays 12:30pm – 2:00pm (All of the above) starting this Thursday, June 5th.
Beginning class will also start on the 5th (6:30pm) with Adam Preble instructing. Don’t worry if you can’t make the first class; happy to have you whenever you can start.
May 1, 2014
Short hours, our reduced class schedule in between semesters, will begin next Tuesday, May 6th. Tonight’s classes on May 1st will be the last ones this semester to follow the typical class schedule.
During short hours classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in Bellmont 904. We are looking into possible Sunday class times for short hours but at this time we don’t believe there will be Sunday classes; another announcement will go out if that changes.
March 25, 2014
As is our tradition, we’ll forgo the Intermediate/Advanced class on Thursday, March 27th, and instead head to Conan’s for our semesterly Pizza Party. Conan’s is located at 603 W 29th St (Google Map). All club members (present and past) are welcome. Note that there WILL be beginning class that night (6:30 – 8:00 PM, in BEL 904).
Hope to see you there.
January 28, 2014
Campus is officially closing for the day due to weather so no Aikido classes today. Hope to see you Thursday.
January 6, 2014
The UT Aikido Club beginner’s class will officially begin January 14th. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM in BEL 904 (Belmont Hall, under the bleachers on the west side of the stadium). Everyone, no matter how inexperienced, is welcome; our beginner’s class is a step-by-step introduction to Aikido.
Can’t make the first class? No problem; we’re happy to have you join us whenever you can make it. Hope to see you then.
