Fall Departmental Scholarship Competition

The departmental scholarships for spring 2014 are now activated and available for application in the Study Abroad Office’s GLOBAL A$$IST system. See below for more information. All applications are due by Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

China Studies Scholarship for Study Abroad

The China Studies Study Abroad Scholarship provides partial financial support for students planning to study in the People’s Republic of China or Taiwan during the summer or academic year. The scholarship amount varies each year, depending on the budget and number of scholarships awarded. The amount is not intended to cover the full cost of a program, so students should pursue additional sources of funding.

Eligibility: Students must have completed at least one year of Chinese at UT-Austin by the end of the semester in which they apply. The competition is based on academic achievement, financial need, and merit of the proposed study abroad program. Undergraduate students must enroll in a language or other organized program.

Mitsubishi Study Abroad Scholarship

The Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Endowment provides partial funding for UT students studying abroad in Japan during the summer or academic year.

Eligibility: Applicants must participate in a language or other organized study program in Japan or the equivalent elsewhere. Funding is available for either graduate or undergraduate students. However, students must have completed at least one year of Japanese before the summer session in order to receive consideration. Awards are for a minimum of $500. The amount is not intended to cover the full cost of a program, so students should pursue additional sources of funding.

How to apply for departmental scholarships: Applications must be submitted online by October 15th through the Study Abroad Office’s GLOBAL A$$IST system. Letters of recommendation are filled out by faculty members online. Automated requests for letters of recommendation are sent out by the system after students have completed and submitted the online application. At least one of the letters of application must be from a language instructor.
