Lavender Graduation is a special graduation ceremony that honors the achievements of graduating lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and ally students on campus.

Lavender Graduation is co-hosted by the Gender and Sexuality Center and the UT Queer Students Alliance (QSA). Our goal is to provide a venue to demonstrate the success of our community members in a personal, entertaining and celebratory way. The Lavender Graduation Ceremony includes:

Exhilarating speeches from UT faculty, administrators, students, and alumni; the chance to cross the lavender stage to celebrate your success and to receive a Lavender Graduation certificate as well as a rainbow tassel; and music, cake and food to share with friends, family and well-wishers!

Do you want to show your support even though you are not graduating?

Attend the event, and bring your friends! Sign up on the GSC listserv to get updates and reminders closer to the event.

Would you like to volunteer at Lavender Graduation?

Students, staff and faculty are welcome to help make this a successful event by providing assistance with event set up and clean up. Email us to learn how you can help, or get on our mailing list: gsc@austin.utexas.edu!

Duke Semester In India Opens Fall 2015

The Duke Semester in India program, which will open in fall 2015, features four courses that focus on and environmental conservation, global health, poverty studies and development. Students will have the opportunity to spend half of the semester in Udaipur in the west and the other half in Bangalore in the south, visiting wildlife sanctuaries, field hospitals, rural villages and prominent development NGO’s.
There will also be excursions to Jaipur and Agra, as well as extended homestays and a chance to partake in the famous Mysore Dussehra Festival.

Additional details can be found on our website: http://globaled.duke.edu/programs/semester/duke-semester-in-india.  For students who want to explore and learn about a variety of different dimensions of India, combined with a highly
immersive cultural experience and an intellectually stimulating curriculum, then this is the ideal program for them!

For students interested in global health and development, they will be able to do coursework on India’s health care practices and systems with outstanding faculty affiliated with award-winning NGOs. This program also features coursework and research opportunities on significant environmental issues/themes, during the Bangalore portion.
We are pleased to have Dr. Krithi Karanth directing this half of the program, and she has spent over 12 years doing research in India examining human dimensions of wildlife conservation.
