As an alum from the UT Asian Studies Department (2005), I thought I might pass along some info about an event in Denton that may be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students in your department, particularly those whose focus is Indian philosophy and religion. If you have a bulletin, newsletter or calendar for your students, perhaps this would be a good event to include!
For the past several years I have studied meditation and yoga philosophy with Professor Paul Muller-Ortega, a world-renowned scholar of Indian Religions and a foremost authority on Kashmir Shaivism and Hindu Tantra. He is in the process of teaching a series of public teleseminars on his rendering of the Shiva Sutras, and he will soon publish complete translations of the Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra and the Tantraloka. He retired from the University of Rochester in 2008 to establish a private school for advanced studies in Shaiva texts, yoga and meditation philosophy called Blue Throat Yoga: www.bluethroatyoga.com.
Professor Muller-Ortega will be in Denton on the evening of Friday May 16 to teach a Satsang at Denton Yoga Center, and he will also be offering diksha in the context of an 18-month meditation study course that weekend. Here is a flyer with more info on the Satsang:
UT students who are interested are also eligible for discounts and scholarships for the entire weekend by contacting the Blue Throat Yoga office.
For more info, please feel free to contact me, or refer any questions to Kara at the Blue Throat Yoga office: firstname.lastname@example.org.
