Howard Fishman is an author, musician, composer, theatre-maker, and culture writer, based in Brooklyn, New York. He is a frequent contributor to The New
Yorker, and his writing has also been published by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, The Telegraph, Vanity Fair, ArtForum, The Village Voice, and The San Fransisco Chronicle. His book debut, TO ANYONE WHO EVER ASKS: THE LIFE, MUSIC, AND MYSTERY OF CONNIE CONVERSE, is out now from Dutton (Penguin Random House). Musician and writer Howard Fishman stumbled upon singer/songwriter, Connie
Converse’s remarkable 1950s recordings and became captivated by her avant-garde talent. Converse blended genres ahead of her time, but her mysterious disappearance in 1974 left her virtually unknown. Fishman dedicated 12 years to researching her life and music, resulting in the book “TO ANYONE WHO EVER ASKS: The Life, Music, and Mystery of Connie Converse” shedding light on her unconventional life, musical genius, and recent resurgence in popularity. The book explores the societal impact of unrecognized talent and positions Converse as a pivotal American artist.
