BDP Application Deadline March 12

Bridging Disciplines Programs Spring 2014 Application Deadline: March 12th
BDP offers students the opportunity to earn an interdisciplinary certificate in one of 14 topics. Interested students should attend one of our Information Sessions offered every Tuesday 11-noon and Wednesday 3-4 in FAC 4. Students can learn more about how to apply on our website. Upcoming Student Opportunity for Pre-Law Students

Beginning this summer, the Longhorn Center for Academic Excellence, in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, will be launching a law school preparation program.  This program is a collaborative partnership with the UT Law School and Huston-Tillotson University. It is designed to help prospective law students develop the critical thinking skills and academic habits they will need to be successful in law school.  Students will participate in a rigorous program that exposes them to the many demands of law school and the legal profession.

More information about this program will be shared with you at an information session that has been set for Wednesday, March 4, from 3-4pm in the Glenn Maloney Room, located in the Student Services Building (SSB G1.408AB).

Upcoming FAFSA event from Office of Student Financial Services

FAFSA completion sessions for continuing students
The time has once again arrived for students to begin applying for financial aid for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year.  The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the only application needed at UT-Austin to apply for grants, work-study, and student loans.  Financial aid counselors will be available to assist current students completing the online FAFSA application (paper FAFSA’s available upon request).  Sessions are held in a computer lab setting on a walk-in basis.  NOTE: UT-Austin’s priority deadline is March 15th

Peer Academic Coaches take private appointments with any student interested in weekly guidance on how to study effectively for UT courses. These private sessions are one hour and coaches typically work with the same students for the duration of a semester. Common appointment topics include note-taking, preparing for tests, test-taking strategies, goal setting, time management, and reading efficiency. Training is provided and the program is certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. Coaches must be willing to work a minimum of five flexible hours per week and attend a weekly meeting. Pay starts at $11 an hour and coaches receive increases based on their level of training and hours of experience.

Outreach Assistants act as roving ambassadors who give short presentations about SLC services and facilitate study skills workshops on a variety of topics for academic classes, residence halls, and student organizations. Outreach Assistants also staff exhibits at campus-wide events and have the opportunity to train to work as a speech consultant.
Outreach Assistants receive merit pay increases based on training and hours of experience. Pre-semester training is provided and Outreach Assistants must be willing to attend a weekly meeting.

A Supplementary Instruction (SI) Leader is an undergraduate student who is assigned to a specific economics course and runs special hour-long discussion sessions twice a week. SI Leaders attend the lecture of the course to which they are assigned to individualize the discussion sections to the professor’s style, and meet weekly as a group to collaborate
on planning & troubleshooting their sessions. Applicants can be any UT student who has taken all of the following courses and received a grade of at least a B: ECO 304K, ECO 304L, and ECO 329.
