Lectures for students interested in health professions

Please let your students — particularly those interested in the health professions — know about “Vital Signs: Introducing the Future of Health Care.” This is a University of Texas at Austin Signature Course co-hosted by Dell Medical School and the School of Nursing featuring Tuesday lectures from leading experts contributing to the health ecosystem in Austin and on a national stage. All lectures are open to the public. Students — even those not enrolled in the class — may attend one or all.

This week’s lecturer is Elizabeth Teisberg, PhD, who brought her vision for value-based healthcare strategy to Dell Med in 2016. From the lecture notes for “Health Care Overview: Function and Value:” To know our current healthcare system requires an understanding of the motivations of different stakeholders, and the mutual accord between them.

Other upcoming lectures include:

Feb. 7: “Stories from the Field: How Health Interventions in Kenya and the U.S. Reveal the Workings of our Health Systems” featuring Bill Tierney, MD
Feb. 14: “Food and Parks are Health: Unexpected Solutions for Systemic Challenges” featuring Raj Patel, PhD, and Lourdes J. Rodríguez, DrPH
