Eric Shute, M.D., is an assistant professor and licensed child and adolescent psychiatrist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Shute specializes in behavioral health disorders in children with medical complexities, specifically on the Dell Children’s Medical Center pediatric consult-liaison service and Children’s Blood and Cancer Center. He also has special interest in providing specialized care for LGBT youth and their families and works collaboratively with the adolescent clinic at Dell Children’s to provide care to this population.
Shute also serves as course director for medical student elective rotations in child and adolescent psychiatry at Dell Children’s Medical Center. He works closely with CAP fellows during their first year of training on the consult-liaison service at DCMC and then in their second year of training through elective experiences in psycho-oncology and adolescent/LGBT clinic.
Shute is a native Texan from San Antonio. He earned his medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston before completing both an internship and residency in pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. He then completed a combined residency in psychiatry and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
