Fieldwork & Language Training Fellowship

Purpose:  The Jordan Center Fieldwork & Language Training Fellowship supports doctoral students who seek to continue study of the Russian language or conduct dissertation fieldwork during the summer session. The fellowship is designed to partially fund the cost of study or research during the summer semester, with priority given to work pursued in the Russian Federation and former Soviet Union.

Deadline: April 1, 2017

Award:  up to $2,500.00

Eligibility:  Applicants must currently be enrolled as doctoral students at NYU. Students graduating at the end of the current academic year may not apply.

Application Guidelines:  

  • a two- to three-paragraph statement of purpose
  • a current curriculum vitae or résumé
  • name and contact information of advisor in home department and/or members of dissertation committee
  • Detailed budget explaining intended use of requested funds

Fellowships for Language Training:  the statement of purpose should clearly outline the applicant’s reasons for undertaking language coursework in Russian and should describe the overall relationship between language study, the location and requirements of the training program, the applicant’s progress in the NYU doctoral program and future professional goals.

Fellowships for Fieldwork:  the statement of purpose should clearly outline the applicant’s intended research goals and describe the direct relationship between those goals and the desired location of research.

The Jordan Center Fellowship Committee will review complete applications and decisions will be announced in writing within four weeks of the submission deadline. Application materials will not be returned.

Please Note the Following Terms and Conditions:  The Jordan Center Fieldwork & Language Training Fellowship is intended to partially cover the cost of language study or dissertation fieldwork. Therefore recipients are free to seek additional or matching funds from their academic departments or other funding sources. Recipients must return all funds if they cancel participation in their scheduled plan of study or research.
