The Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies at Indiana University is seeking a qualified applicant to fulfill the role of Assistant Director and Grants Manager in the Language Workshop. This position will please an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the Language Workshop. Takes primary responsibility for execution and oversight of grant activities and reporting; coordinates academic and outreach programming; and serves as primary supervisor of office support staff, graduate assistants, seasonal-hire instructors, and interns. Oversees Workshop business and financial processes; monitors accounts and budget tracking processes; develops plans for optimal use of [base and discretionary] budgets. Takes primary responsibility for supervising the Center’s strategic communications, including web and social media activity, as well as development outreach to alumni. Advises the Director about issues of strategy and policy; identifies opportunities for the development of intramural and extramural funding streams and advises the Director on findings. Oversees all student-facing functions of the workshop.

REQUIRED Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in academic or non-profit administration. Combinations of related education and work experience may be considered. Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, including the ability to communicate with diverse communities. Strong management, leadership, and presentation skills. Ability to prioritize and work independently on multiple projects with demanding time deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in Humanities, Social Science, Area or International Studies, or Language Acquisition/Instruction strongly preferred. Knowledge of IU policies, procedures, financial systems, course management, and student record systems highly desired. Proficiency in spreadsheet use (particularly constants, macros, and pivot tables) highly desired. Proficiency in one or more Workshop languages desired. Facility with web & print design and with image, sound, and video editing software a plus.
