Project Global Officer (Project GO) is a Department of Defense initiative aimed at improving the language skills, regional expertise, and intercultural communication skills of future military officers. Sponsored by the Defense Language and National Security Education Office and administered by the Institute of International Education, Project GO provides institutional grants to U.S institutions of higher education with large ROTC student enrollments, to include the Senior Military Colleges. In turn, these institutions provide language and culture training to ROTC students from across the nation, funding domestic and overseas ROTC language programs and scholarships.  Working in support of Army, Air Force, and Navy ROTC Headquarters, Project GO facilitates collaborative efforts both among universities and ROTC leadership.

1. A U.S. citizen.
2. An undergraduate or graduate student on track to commission through the Army, Naval, or Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), contracted or non-contracted, at a regionally accredited college or university in the United States.

Deadline for Applications: March 15, 2018

The Endangered Language Fund provides grants for language documentation and revitalization, and for linguistic fieldwork. The work most likely to be funded is that which serves both the native community and the field of linguistics, although projects which have immediate applicability to one group and more distant applicability to the other will also be considered. Support for publication is a low priority, although it will be considered. Proposals can originate in any country. The language involved must be in danger of disappearing within a generation or two. Endangerment is a continuum, and the location on the continuum is one factor in our funding decisions.

American Councils Study Abroad is pleased to announce a new Scholarship for Business, Technology, and Innovation Internships in Russia!

U.S. undergraduate and graduate students in business, innovation, and STEM fields are now eligible to apply for the Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarship for internships in Russia across two programs:

• Overseas Professional and Intercultural Training (OPIT) offers a 6-8-week summer internship at business and technology companies in Moscow and a credit in intercultural communication. No prior study of Russian is required.
• Business Russian Language and Internship (BRLI) combines intensive language study with summer or semester-long internships at business or technology companies in Moscow or St. Petersburg.

Scholarship Awards
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, program compatibility, and academic merit. Awards range from $3,000 to $5,000. Click here to learn about the Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarship.

Internship Program

Students are matched with internship hosts from a network of companies in business consulting, finance, advertising, marketing, social media, technology, e-commerce, fashion, education, and more. Participants will prepare internship goals before departure, earn credit, and complete a capstone project of their choice upon program completion.

Eligibility
U.S. undergraduate and graduate students in business or STEM fields are eligible to apply for American Councils Business, Technology, and Innovation Scholarships. Applicants must be admitted to either OPIT or BRLI to receive funding. No prior study of Russian is required to participate in OPIT.

American Councils Study Abroad is pleased to announce its new Dan E. Davidson Fellowships for language study in Russia, East Europe, Eurasia, and East Asia.  Established in honor of American Councils’ founder and President Emeritus and his four decades of leadership in the field of international education, the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship supports highly qualified and deserving individuals who demonstrate a dedication to successful international collaboration and the development of greater mutual understanding between the U.S. and countries around the world.

Beginning fall semester 2018, fellowships of up to $1,000 will be awarded for summer study, up to $4,000 for semester study and up to $8,500 for academic-year programs.  These fellowships can be used for any of the following American Councils intensive language programs:

• Russian Language & Area Studies (RLASP)
• Eurasian Regional Languages Program (ERLP)
• Balkan Language Initiative (BLI)
• Taiwan Intensive Summer Language Program (TISLP), and
• Indonesian Overseas Program (IOP).

To be eligible for the Dan E. Davidson Fellowship, applicants must:

• Meet the requirements of their selected program;
• Be a U.S. citizen;
• Be enrolled in and have completed two academic years of study at an accredited college or university by the start of their program;
• Demonstrate a commitment to becoming culturally aware citizens, contributing to a mutual understanding, and advancing successful international collaboration;
• Demonstrate financial need.

Fall 2018 applications must be submitted by March 15, 2018

Domestic Fellowships

Title VIII Fellowships of up to $5,400 are available to support U.S. graduate students, area specialists, and scholars studying the languages and cultures of Eastern Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union in the IU Summer Language Workshop.

The mission of the Title VIII Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union — administered by the State Department’s Bureau of Intelligence and Research — is to ensure that timely, independent, analysis informs foreign policy decisions.

Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. Priority goes to applicants who will further the program’s mission to develop and maintain high-quality research and training programs critical to the national security of the United States and to support and sustain American expertise on the countries of Eastern Europe and the
independent states of the former Soviet Union.

Funding for Russian is available only for participants who place into the 3rd-year course or higher.

Kennan Institute Title VIII Research Scholarships

3-9 months duration

Title VIII Research Scholarships lasting three to nine months are available to academic participants in the early stages of their career (before tenure) or scholars whose careers have been interrupted or delayed. For non-academics, an equivalent degree of professional achievement is expected. Eligibility is limited to the postdoctoral level for academic participants, although doctoral candidates in the process of completing a dissertation may apply (the dissertation must be successfully defended before taking residence at the Kennan Institute). Applicants must be U.S. citizens. Research proposals examining the countries of Eurasia are eligible. Those proposals related to regional Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Belarus, the Caucasus, and contemporary issues are particularly welcome. The Title VIII Research Scholar grant offers a stipend of $3,500 per month, research facilities, computer support, and some research assistance. Grant recipients are required to be in residence at the Institute in Washington, D.C. for the duration of their fellowship.

One round of competitive Title VIII Research Scholar selection is held per year. The deadline for receipt of applications and supporting materials is January 31, 2018. Application materials may be submitted by email. The Research Scholar Program is supported by the Program for Research and Training on Eastern Europe and the Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (Title VIII) of the United States Department of State.
