Grad Program: PhD Fellow in Linguistics– Keyword/Keymorph Analysis of Russian and Norwegian News Media (The Arctic University of Norway)

A PhD position in Linguistics is available at the Department of Language and Culture (ISK)Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education (HSL). The position is part of the THREAT-DEFUSER project which explores the role of “soft” information strategies propagated through mass and social media that can be used in hybrid warfare. We investigate Norwegian perceptions of Russia, as well as Russian perceptions of Norway, in the context of Norwegian national security.

The position is affiliated with both the CLEAR (Cognitive Linguistics: Empirical Approaches to Russian) and Sami language technology (Giellatekno) research groups.

ISK offers one-year programmes, as well as full Bachelor and Master programmes in the following fields: General linguistics, literature, art history, media and documentation studies, English, Kven, Finnish, Norwegian, Russian, Sami, Spanish, and German. It also offers PhD programmes in linguistics, cultural/literary studies, art history, as well as media and documentation studies.

Viadrinicum is an annual summer school devoted to the countries of the Eastern Partnership, and the larger context of Central and Eastern Europe. This year‘s edition is designed as a digital transsectoral lab on (post-)migration, aiming to tackle the notion of (post-)migrant society from multiple theoretical and methodological angles. With the help of online academic seminars the school will allow its participants to deepen theoretical insights into the topics of (post-)migration, convivial diversity and multilocal belonging. Besides that, the participants will be able to enhance their practical and methodological skills in the framework of several project-oriented workshops, organised in the respective countries of their residence with the help of local partners.

Grad Program: Research and PhD Program in Economics (Higher School of Economics, Moscow)

MSc Research program starts with  a 2-year program of coursework consisting of core courses in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics, followed by elective field courses, which leads to the MSc in economics degree. International students are admitted to the program based on their educational background, quantitative skills and research motivation, proven by their application credentials. 

Candidates who complete the MSc at a high level, pass qualification exams (for Russian citizens only) and find themselves a research advisor are admitted into the 3-year PhD programme of supervised independent research. All candidates are approved by the Academic Council of the Doctoral School in Economics.

The Faculty of Economic Sciences of National Research University Higher School of Economics employs research-active economists who conduct research in a variety of international labs and research centers. Hence the Faculty of Economic Sciences offers supervision in many areas of economics and finance.  Target audience are Russian and non-Russian students who have a strong mathematical background and are interested in economic research, both academic and applied.

Prof. Dev. : Russian Military Executive Education Course

The Russia and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (https://www.csis.org/) in Washington D.C. has an executive education program CSIS designed for scholars with a background in Russian studies to develop new skills and expertise in analyzing Russian military affairs.

This executive education program is taking place on July 20 – 24, 2020 and is free to participants accepted into the program. CSIS is accepting applications through June 1, 2020 but the earlier applications come in, the better. Grad Program: Master’s by Research in Russian and Czech, Online Option (University of Bristol)

Deadline: August 2, 2020 (Fall 2020); December 2, 2020 (Spring 2021)

The University of Bristol offers a one-year Master’s by Research (MPhil) in Russian and Czech for both on-campus students and distance learners. This is a research programme, meaning there are no taught classes, and the student will write a 25,000 word dissertation on a topic of their choice under the supervision of the faculty. It is a good option for a motivated student who already has a research topic in mind, and wants to gain research experience before applying for PhD programmes.

Our faculty have research experience in Russian literature from the 18C to the present, 19C/early 20C Russian intellectual history, cinema, visual culture, the cultural history of the Soviet Union, gender studies, Russian Orthodox culture, the medical humanities, and Czech literature from the 19C to the present.
