The department of Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, California) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the area of post-Soviet Russian literature and culture. In addition to a Ph.D. by August 2022 and significant scholarly potential, native or near-native fluency in Russian and English is required. The successful applicant will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses, including courses in the University’s general education program.

CFP: Contemporary International Affairs (Cornell University)

The Cornell International Affairs Review is a student-run, biannually published academic journal at Cornell University dedicated to publishing undergraduate, postgraduate, and expert scholarship on contemporary international affairs.

The Review seeks to curate papers that present original research and demonstrate novel arguments or interpretive approaches. Papers should preferably address events and trends that are not well-established in current scholarship, yet have immediate global relevance and engage a broader and more diverse audience beyond the traditional academic sphere. We welcome submissions from any relevant field of study, and particularly encourage papers that seek to address historically underrepresented demographics, as well as lesser-studied regions, trends, and events. We also heavily encourage the submission of papers that utilize non-English language secondary scholarship or primary source research.

Acad. Job: Assistant Professor of Russian Studies (Dartmouth College)

The Department of Russian at Dartmouth College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professorship in Russian Studies, to begin July 1, 2022. We are especially interested in applicants with expertise in post-Soviet and contemporary literature, language, and culture; with a focus on the non-Russian cultures of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe; or on ethnicity/nationality/race in the former Soviet bloc. Qualified candidates must have a Ph. D. in Slavic languages and literatures or a related field at the start of appointment; native or near-native fluency in Russian and English; and the ability to teach language at all levels.  In addition to specialized courses that reflect their research interests, the person in this position will also be expected to teach core courses in Russian literature and culture and to lead the joint (with the Government Department and the Irving Energy Institute) Foreign Study Program to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Irkutsk. Faculty are also expected to be actively involved in contributing to the vital intellectual and extracurricular life of the department. Qualified candidates should demonstrate initiative and organizational experience as well as willingness to serve the larger College community. Working on behalf of the Ivy Plus Libraries Confederation (IPLC), https://ivpluslibraries.org/, the Web Collection Librarian coordinates the IPLC Web Collecting Program, a collaborative collection development effort to build curated, thematic collections of freely available but at-risk web content in order to support research at participating Libraries and beyond.

The Web Collection Librarian will perform the operational work of maintaining and growing the existing 30 collaborative IPLC thematic web collections and building new web collections–including web harvesting, website owner notifications, quality assurance, description and organization, disclosure, assessment, preservation, and outreach for public use–while working closely with IPLC stakeholders to help coordinate the collaborative Program. The ideal candidate is a focused and detail-oriented information professional with outstanding communication skills and demonstrated experience with collaboration, equally suited and committed to in-depth web collection building and high-profile collaborative outreach with IPLC participants and the research library community.

The University of Central Asia seeks to fill in a full-time position at the Institute of Public Policy and Administration. In your role as a Research Assistant, you will be contributing to IPPA’s research and training projects in the area of economic and social studies.

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Research Fellow is expected to carry out the following duties:
  • Assist IPPA project staff in its various functions, including project support, document drafting and research assistance;
  • Work with financial reporting programs;
  • Collect and process qualitative and quantitative information related to the economic and social development of the Central Asian countries through desk research and relevant communications with national and international stakeholders;
  • Draft research papers and reports as required;
  • Update material on a regular basis for the University’s electronic library and databases;
  • Assist IPPA staff with different logistical and organizational activities.

International 5-minute video competition: Dostoevsky’s “Бесы”

In honor of the Dostoevsky Bicentennial, the 150th anniversary of the novel «Бесы» (DemonsDevils or The Possessed), and the 50th anniversary of the International Dostoevsky Society (IDS), the IDS announces an international competition of 5-minute videos relating to the novel. The grand prize is a free trip to the XVIII Symposium of the IDS, Nagoya, Japan, 4-8 March 2022.
