The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, which is funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture,​ is accepting applications for semester-long unpaid internships during the academic year. The internship is open to UT graduate students and undergraduate students in their junior and senior years as well as recent graduates. Internships will take place at the Warsaw editorial office of Culture.pl, a leading website about Polish culture run by the institute.

Requirements:

• Current student at UT-Austin
• Outstanding writing and editing skills (in English)
• Previous experience with website content management systems and/or social media
• Interest in Polish culture

Knowledge of Polish or enrollment in Polish language study or tutoring is preferred, but not required.

Duties:

Interns will collaborate with the editorial team of the English version of Culture.pl. They will be expected to work on-site, Monday-Friday from 10am to 4pm during the duration of the 2-3 month internship (exact dates to be arranged with Culture.pl staff).

The intern’s daily duties will include:

• Preparing press materials for publication on the website
• Compose or edit written content about Polish culture
• Promote the website through link building and social media activity
• Publish content on the website
• Assist the web publishing team with the upkeep of the website

Please clearly state your interest in whichever area you are hoping to work
and describe your qualifications in the area in your cover letter.

Interns must cover all travel costs as well as rent, food and entertainment while in Warsaw. Interns who receive the professional development award must also agree to and complete the following conditions:

1. Write and submit a news article with photos about their experience while abroad to be published on both the Slavic Department and Austin Polish Society website.
2. Write a thank you letter to the donors of the Austin Polish Society, who have made funding for the scholarship possible, and plan to speak about the experience at an Austin Polish Society member meeting upon return to Austin.

Travel: Summer Internships in Siberia (“Cosmopolitan” Educational Center)

“Cosmopolitan” Educational Center invites students to participate in their language & creativity summer camps that will be located in the beautiful Altai area and in the delightful countryside just outside Novosibirsk from mid-June until early August, 2018. Applicants are welcome to participate as an international intern teaching English to Russian children, supervising a creativity workshop and learning Russian with our professional teacher. Join the outdoor adventure tourism program of the Altai Mountains session that comprises rafting, horseback riding, hiking, camping, excursions. Get a first-hand experience of the creative program of the session in Novosibirsk and enjoy the sites of the capital city of Siberia. Tours of Novosibirsk and trips to the beautiful Siberian towns of Tomsk, Irkutsk and to magnificent Lake Baikal will be organized between and after the camp sessions. The internship fees are very reasonable.

Harvard Summer Russian Program in Tbilisi, Georgia
Dates: June 10 – August 4, 2018

Advance Russian-language skills while exploring Georgian culture, history, literature, and film, including Georgia’s longstanding cultural and political relationship with Russia. The ancient capital city of Tbilisi, which is rapidly developing itself for the twenty-first century, offers a distinctive and fascinating site for continuing your Russian-language learning. Students will also take several trips within Georgia – to Mtskheta, Davit Gareja, Gori, Borjomi, Batumi, and Kazbegi — to gain a deeper understanding of the Georgian nation and its regional context. Students can use their Russian in hands-on situations with a Russian theatrical troupe and in opportunities to participate in an archaeological dig.

Program Structure
Studies include intermediate-Russian language courses every weekday with additional opportunities to explore Georgian and Russian culture, history, literature, film, and food. Note: A pre-departure basic introduction to the Georgian language and alphabet will be available for participants and additional non-credit Georgian language study may be arranged as part of the program in Tbilisi for those desiring to study Georgian.

RUSS S-BG Study Abroad in Tbilisi, Georgia: Intermediate Russian

This program counts as one full-year course (8 credits) of degree credit.

The Harvard Summer Program in Tbilisi, Georgia, provides students with a full course in intermediate-level Russian language instruction. Language study tracks the content of the Harvard Faculty of Arts and Sciences Russian B-level courses (equivalent to Russian Ba-Bb, Bta-Btb, or Bab), preparing students to continue in Advanced Russian/Third-Year (Russian 101-103); the program includes 140 hours of language instruction. The unique situation in Tbilisi also allows students to explore Georgian culture, history, literature, and film, including Georgia’s cultural and political relationship with Russia. The ancient capital city of Tbilisi, which is rapidly developing itself for the twenty-first century, offers a distinctive and fascinating site for continuing Russian-language learning.

Where Students Live and Study
Program participants will stay in double rooms at a small hotel convenient to the historical center of Tbilisi and to International School of Economics (ISET), where classes will be held. The hotel is also a short walk from the museum and arts district, and offers numerous shopping and restaurant opportunities nearby. All hotel rooms and the classrooms have air conditioning. Wifi is available at both the hotel and the university.

Daily breakfast and dinner will be provided at the hotel’s restaurant. Program participants will be responsible for lunchtime meals except for special program events. Georgian cuisine is a highlight this program, and participants will have ample opportunity to explore Tbilisi’s restaurants and cafes, which feature truly amazing food at very reasonable prices.

Study Abroad: Critical Languages Program (ASU Melikian Center)

The Critical Languages Institute at Arizona State University’s Melikian Center is still enrolling for the 2018 summer semester, in selected languages. They are proud to offer a tuition-free program, regardless of residency. Students pay a flat fee of $1,500 for 4-13 semester credits, plus study-abroad fees if they opt to join an overseas program. Programs are offered in the U.S., overseas, or in “combination” courses that include both U.S. and overseas components.

FUNDING:
Select scholarships are available for Albanian, Armenian, Polish, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

Rolling admission continues through May 11, 2018.

The Aleksanteri Institute, the Finnish Centre for Russian and Eastern European Studies at the University of Helsinki, invites international students from all countries to participate in the Helsinki Summer School course Problems of Democracy in the Eastern EU countries, on 7 – 23 August 2018. The course focuses on the current challenges of democracy and the rule of law in the Eastern members of the EU. It provides students with multidisciplinary approaches to study political and societal problems that hinder democratic conduct and undermine the common future of the European community. The course examines central issues related to governance, populism, nationalism, corruption, poverty, xenophobia, Roma population, environment and gender-related questions. The students will gain a broad overview of current societal and political developments in Eastern European EU countries.

Helsinki Summer School is a three-week academic event organised every August by the University of Helsinki, one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary, research-oriented universities renowned for its high quality teaching, research and innovation. It offers 19 courses that cover a wide range of academic fields and multidisciplinary topics. The courses are designed to challenge and inspire students in a learning environment that promotes equality.

Each year Helsinki Summer School gives advanced degree students from over 60 countries an unforgettable experience that combines high academic studies with a wide range of cultural and social activities. The language of study is English and the credits are transferable.

Study Abroad: Summer in Krakow (Jagiellonian Uni)

The School of Polish Language and Culture at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow is pleased to announce that 2018 summer programs are open for applications.

Every July and August several hundred participants from more than 40 countries have the unique opportunity not only to study Polish language, culture, and society, but also to spend time in the beautiful city of Kraków, meeting people from all around the world and making new friends. In summer 2018 students can participate in the 6-week program, 4-week program, and 3-week programs.

  • Four-week program from July 5-August 1
    • This program has been reintroduced with a new format! Every week additional activities  will take place within the language course: classes held in the city space, in museums and galleries, and in places loved by locals of Krakow as well as tourists.

Study Abroad: Summer University in Moscow (HSE)

Students are invited to apply to Summer University in Moscow, REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) in math, or Russian language intensive course. The Summer U. or REU can be combined with courses of Russian language on various levels, starting from beginners. All courses are taught in English. Program Overview
This unique summer study abroad program at a premier university in Russia combines intensive Russian language coursework with cultural immersion and excursions in Saint Petersburg, Russia’s cultural capital. The program is open to students of all levels, including those with no Russian language skills. The program will run for six weeks and will be based at the Higher School of Economics, one of Russia’s most prestigious and top-rated universities.

The six-week language and culture program in Saint Petersburg includes:
Intensive University Academic Program
●       Four hours of Russian language coursework every weekday taught in Russian by faculty of the Higher School of Economics
●       Weekly lectures in English about Russian politics, culture and economy
●       One-on-one Russian language practice with a student buddy
●       Official transcript eligible for transfer credit upon successful completion of the program
Housing, Meals and Host Families
·      Comfort, convenience and security in a recently renovated student residence hall with kitchens, Wi-Fi, and 24 hour residential support

Cultural Program
With one excursion each week, you will explore the city through a series of visits to museums (including the world-famous Hermitage), concerts, ballets, and other events.
A team of HSE Russian buddies will organize additional activities, such as day-long trips to Saint Petersburg historical suburbs, Russian sporting events, cooking and game nights.
About the City
Envisioned by Peter the Great as Russia’s window to the West and designed by French and Italian architects, Saint Petersburg became a testimony to opulence with golden palaces, pastel-colored mansions, and landscaped parks, gardens, and canals. Having endured the horrors of World War II and Stalinist repression, the people now cope with a new political and economic reality. Known as Leningrad from 1924 to 1991, the city of nearly five million is easily navigated by foot, bus, trolley, and an efficient metro system.
Program Cost
The program fee of $3,850 includes:
●       Tuition
●       Housing in a residence hall
●       Lunches on weekdays
●       Full-time program leadership and support
●       Weekly field trips and cultural activities
An additional fee of $600 applies for the host family option which includes breakfast. The final price is subject to change depending on the currency exchange rate.
Students will need to pay for their visa, airfare, textbooks and remaining meals.
Program Requirements
The program is open to Five College students.
Students with no Russian skills are encouraged to apply.
Students are required to have a valid passport in order to be accepted. Russian immigration requires that this passport is valid for 18 months beyond the end date of the program.
