Summer students focus on how issues of identity and ethnicity currently affect Kyrgyzstan and its diverse demographics. Urban/rural divides are also discussed in both options with a week-long horseback trekinto the mountains of Kyrgyzstan to directly introduce students to modern nomads and their way of life.

Central Asian Studies is for adventurous students looking to understand a militarily and economically vital part of the world where Islam and Christianity, as well as the interests of global and local groups mix and sometimes collide. Study Abroad: Society, Business, and the Arts (St. Petersburg, Russia)

Deadline for Applications: May 15, 2018

Society, Business, and the Arts
Study Abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg is Russia’s “cultural capital” – a grand city bursting with both classical and contemporary culture and art. St. Petersburg is also Russia’s “window on Europe” – a strategically placed city meant to open Russia, including the Russian economy, to Europe.

Home to many of Russia’s most noted authors, world famous museums and collections, and numerous theaters and concert halls, St. Petersburg is an excellent place to study the arts. This concentration of culture and history is also responsible for a significant part of the local economy in the form of tourism, both domestic and foreign. It also helps draw and retain an educated workforce, making the city very attractive to business. The very visible nature of the arts and business in St. Petersburg make it an excellent location in which to study each as well as their interactions together and with society at large.

Society, Business, and the Arts is hosted at St. Petersburg State University of Economics, one of Russia’s leading institutions, and located in the very heart of the city. This program offers a range of electives taught in English on culture, history, politics, economics, finance, marketing, and more. Several courses focus on the intersection of these subjects: how the economy affects the arts and the role of cultural movements within society. It includes a wide cultural excusion package and a weekend trip to Moscow. You’ll gain a wider, fuller, first-hand perspective on Russia for your future career in government, business, or academia.
