Welcome to the Chang Lab! We live at the intersection of healthcare and artificial intelligence, seeking to develop tools for better diagnostics, predictive analytics and personalized bioelectronic medicine.
One of the biggest areas of research for us is in the area of optimizing electrical stimulus waveforms for the purposes of patient-specific electroceuticals. Most devices today that use electrical stimulation use simple waveforms (e.g. sinusoids, square waves), but these waveforms are often not optimal from an energetics perspective. By leveraging tools in artificial intelligence and evolutionary search algorithms, we hope to develop devices that will one day learn automatically from patient’s biological feedback, how to shape these waveforms specifically to match their pathophysiological needs.
