Leona Peterson recently graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington’s School of Social Work Ph.D. program. She received her MS in Social Work and BA in Psychology from UTA. Throughout her studies, Leona focused on research into recovery-oriented mental health treatment and evidence-based practices. Her three-article dissertation examined the incidence of physical restraint, seclusion, and suicidality during inpatient psychiatric hospitalization for people with schizophrenia. Leona was a lead researcher at UTA’s community mental health center and has years of clinical experience in both inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. She enjoys volunteering at her yoga studio and playing with her dog and cat, Ginger and Thomas. She is a licensed pilot, a certified scuba diver, and a certified yoga instructor.
