Mentorship Programs

Student Mentorship Program

Beginning in the 2019-2020 academic year, OUTLaw began pairing incoming 1Ls with second and third year law students to provide support and mentorship throughout the academic year and beyond. Eryn Lyle and Abigail Orgeron served as co-chairs of the mentorship committee during its inaugural year; the program is now administered by OUTLaw’s Mentorship Coordinator.

LGBT Bar Mentorship Program

In Fall 2011, the Austin LGBT Bar Association, in collaboration with OUTLaw, created the Austin LGBT Bar Association Mentor Program. The Mentor Program aims to match experienced attorneys with law students to provide professional wisdom and guidance.

As a mentee, you agree to meet with your mentor at least once quarterly. Meetings should take place at a mutually agreeable location other than your mentor’s office (although we encourage you to visit your mentor at their office on other occasions). All mentors and mentees are expected to uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in the Austin LGBT Bar Association Mentor Program. Please contact us at outlaw.txlaw@gmail.com if you have not heard from your mentor within two weeks of receiving your initial assignment.

At the end of each school year, OUTLaw and the LGBT Bar Association ask mentees to complete an evaluation form.
