Dr. Frei’s translational research activities involve the application and critical evaluation of novel technologies (including anti-infectives) in both institutional and community healthcare settings. His approach can best be described as a mixture of pharmacoepidemiology, health services research, health disparities research, and microbial genomics. His major areas of study include pneumonia, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), HIV, and influenza.

Dr. Saklad is the director of the psychiatric pharmacy program in San Antonio and on the staff of San Antonio State Hospital where he provides pharmaceutical care to the seriously mentally ill.  His current research interests are in the area of serious mental illness and its treatment, particularly identification of endophenotypes by analysis of large demographic, process, and outcome databases. He is an active member of ASHP and CPNP and provider of innovative continuing education programming.
