Donna Burkett, M.S., R.Ph.
Donna Burkett, M.S.,R.Ph., received her B.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy (UTCOP) and her M.S. in Pharmacy Administration through the Option II Program at the University of Texas. She joined the faculty in 2011 and is currently a clinical associate professor in the Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice Division.
She has over twenty-seven years of experience in hospital pharmacy management as Director of Pharmacy in various hospitals in San Antonio and Austin, TX. In her current role at the College of Pharmacy, her focus is on experiential training of pharmacy students. She is the Course Coordinator for the Institutional Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (I-IPPE) and Regional Director for the Austin/Temple/Waco P4 Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience. In addition, Professor Burkett teaches Hospital Pharmacy, Applied Pharmacy Management, and facilitates pharmacotherapeutics labs. She is also the Advisor to the UTCOP APhA-ASP (American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists).
She was appointed to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in 1997 for a six year term and was appointed to the Texas Medicaid Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics Committee in 2003 where she is still serving as Vice Chair until 2016. Professor Burkett served as President of the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) and also the Central Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CTSHP). She is a member of several national, state and local organizations, including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), TSHP, Austin Area Society of Health-System Pharmacists, APhA, Texas Pharmacy Association and the Capitol Area Pharmacy Association. She has received several honors and awards, including TSHP Pharmacy Leadership Award, UTCOP William J. Sheffield Outstanding Alumnus Award and the CTSHP Pharmacist of the Year Award.
Her areas of interest include hospital/health-system pharmacy, hospital pharmacy management, and pharmacy leadership and advocacy.
