Tawny (Bettinger) Smith, Pharm.D., BCPP
Dr. Tawny Smith attended the University of Illinois-Chicago where she received her doctorate of pharmacy degree in 1998. She completed her psychiatric pharmacy residency training at The University of Texas at Austin (UT) in 1999. Following that, she completed a 2 year fellowship in Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Smith is a board-certified psychiatric pharmacist serving as an Assistant Professor of Medicine with the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. She has additional academic appointments at Texas A&M Medical Center department of psychiatry and The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Smith currently practices at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital and serves as the clinical pharmacy specialist in the Department of Psychiatry. She also maintains a practice at the Seton Mind Institute Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic. Dr. Smith has been a faculty preceptor for the program since 2003 and has served as the PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency Director since 2006. She is an active member of CPNP and was the Program Chair for the 2012 annual meeting. Currently, she is serving on the CPNP Curriculum Task Force Committee. She has been an ASHP accreditation guest surveyor since 2014 and in the fall of 2015, joined a committee charged with updating the ASHP PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency standards. In 2014, Dr. Smith was the recipient of the UT Southwestern Psychiatry Residency Program Faculty of the Year award. She has over 50 published abstracts, peer reviewed papers and book chapters. In her free time, Dr. Smith enjoys running, trying out new Austin restaurants, cooking/baking and spending time with her family.
