White Papers

IOE staff regularly produce documents consisting of best practices, topical interest areas, and theoretical approaches. These documents are produced with our customers’ needs in mind and are often provided to agency leadership.

Unintended turnover is a critical and costly issue facing all organizations. Understanding the factors on why people stay as compared to those who leave assist leadership in prioritizing areas of improvement. Thus we produced a report which represents an analysis of employee perceptions from the Survey of Employee Engagement (SEE) regarding whether or not employees intend to stay or leave their respective state agency. As pay and benefits are critical to attracting and maintaining quality employees, we also used SEE data to analyze employee perceptions regarding pay and benefits as they relate to the overall level of workplace satisfaction. Both reports, as well as several others, can be found on our Research and Publications page.

The American Society for Quality’s Government Division (Spring11 Vol14 No2) recently featured The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) for their exemplary use of the Survey of Employee Engagement in responding to employees and improving the organization. The full case study was developed by Noel Landuyt and Jerry Cochran at UT in cooperation with TPWD Deputy Director Jim Lopp. A reprint excerpt case study can be downloaded here. The full paper is available from our offices upon request.
