The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is hiring summer externs to work as patient care assistant’s (PCA) in the in-patient acute care areas and the post anesthesia care unit.
The Summer 2016 Nursing Externship will run for eight weeks from June 6 to August 6, 2016 and is exclusive to students currently enrolled in an accredited, four year, bachelors of science nursing program and have completed their junior year as of May 2016. Nurse externs will become part of HSS’ Magnet patient care delivery workforce, and be exposed to meaningful patient care experiences throughout this time and are provided with weekly nursing education classes throughout the experience.
Orientation is the first two weeks. The following six weeks, program participants will be paired with preceptors and be assigned to work on hospital units.
Additional program requirements:
- Completed 2 clinical rotations; one must be Med/Surg
- 3.5 GPA
- Heart Saver/BLS certified through the American Heart Association
- Flexible to day and night shifts
- Committed to the entire duration of the program.
- Resume that highlights clinical rotations.
- Excellent organization and communication skills and the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment are essential.
