For Volunteers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with TPEI. We have a variety of opportunities for members of the UT-Austin community to volunteer in direct service.

All prospective volunteers must attend a Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Volunteer Training. There are limited opportunities to attend this training locally, so it is advised that prospective volunteers look into the TDCJ Volunteer Orientation Schedule early.
The next TDCJ Training in Austin will be held January 18, 2020 at the Diocese of Austin.

Below you will find our open volunteer positions, as well as our general volunteer eligibility requirements. If you have an idea for a new course or program, please feel free to contact us by email at tpei@prc.utexas.edu.

Open Volunteer Positions

We are seeking instructors for Rhetoric 306 for the Spring 2020 Semester. Please contact Lindsay Bing at lindsay.bing@prc.utexas.edu if you are interested in this position.

Volunteer Eligibility

In order to teach a credit-bearing course:

Lead instructors for credit-bearing classes must meet the requirements laid out by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and be affiliated with UT-Austin. Eligible instructors include UT Faculty, UT Postdoctoral Fellows, and UT Graduate students who have completed their Master’s degree and advanced to candidacy (or will do so shortly). The course taught must be within the discipline of the lead instructor’s PhD or Master’s degree.

In order to teach a non-credit course:

Instructors for non-credit courses, including College Prep and Enrichment courses, do not need to meet accreditation requirements, but do need to have completed at least a bachelor’s degree, be formally affiliated with UT-Austin, and have some experience teaching at the high school or college level. Eligible instructors include UT Graduate Students, UT Faculty & Staff, and UT Postdoctoral Fellows.

In order to support students as a Learning Lab Assistant:

Students in credit-bearing classes at Lockhart Women’s CF will meet once per week to work on class assignments, discuss readings, and study for exams. Four to five Learning Lab Assistants will be assigned to each class to support students as they work through their coursework. Learning Lab Assistants can be UT faculty, staff, post-doctoral fellows, or graduate students at any level.
