What is GMS?
“The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) program, established in 1999, is a 1.6 billion dollar initiative funded by grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The goal of the GMS program is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial need to reach their highest potential.”

Who can apply?
The Gates Millennium Scholars program has reached its award goal and is not accepting new applicants. Current Gates Scholars can still access the Scholar Portals.
The Office of Financial Aid at The University of Texas at Austin has a dedicated financial aid professional who handles the Institutional side of processing Gates Millennium Scholar funding requests and scholarship disbursement for continuing and new transfer Undergraduate and Graduate Gates Millennium Scholars attending the University.
