About this Site

Thank you for visiting my research website.  I am an anthropologist in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Texas at Austin and have been learning about the lifeways of people living in the Tōhoku region of Japan since I first visited there in the late 1980s.

My aim in creating this site is to provide a resource for those interested in Japan’s Tōhoku region by including photographs I have taken in the region over the years and a bibliography of research works related to the region.  Over time, I hope that this will develop into a comprehensive resource for those interested in Tōhoku and more generally in rural society.
