Lynn is a person in long-term recovery and a powerful connector in our community. He is the Pop-Up Institute’s Co-Chair of the Youth Recovery Network initiative, originally funded by St. David’s Foundation. He is also the Chair of the Executive Board of Austin Recovery, Central Texas’s longest standing non-profit treatment center. He is a member of the St. David’s Foundation Emeritus Council and he recently served as the Treasurer for the Austin Area Research Organization. He is an integral part of the Student Success Strike Force, E3 Alliance (improving children’s outcomes from “cradle to career”) and he also serves on the Board of Advisors for the FIRST Fund which helps first-grade students and their parents or guardians to establish, seed, and grow their own children(s’) post-secondary plans. In the past, he has served on powerful Boards and Steering/Advisory Committees including St. David’s Foundation, Austin Community College, the UT Center for Students in Recovery, Capital IDEA, Workforce Potential Project, Austin Museum of Art, Colorado River Foundation, Austin Area Urban League, United Way of the Capital Area, The Seton Fund, The Foundation of the Children’s Hospital of Austin, Greenlights for Nonprofits, LifeWorks, Leadership Austin, Youth and Family Alliance, and Child and Family Services. He proudly formally established the Workforce Potential Project (WPP), designed to equip area residents at least 25 years of age with a sub-baccalaureate degree or industry-recognized credential that qualifies them for demand occupations in growth industry sectors.  Lynn’s investment in local human capital is profound and his impact, extraordinary.

Presently, Lynn provides legal, strategic planning, and business consulting services pertaining to water projects, water and wastewater utilities, electric transmission projects, land and water conservation, and property rights through his company, Lynn Sherman Law Firm and Consulting. During his time at the Winstead Consulting Group, Lower Colorado River Authority and WaterTexas, and Bickerstaff, Heath, Smiley, Pollan, Kever & McDaniel law firm, Lynn managed water development projects; represented LCRA, and other public and private entities, on water supply and wastewater transactions, the acquisition and valuation of water rights and water projects, regulatory permitting, and water and wastewater utility and represented landowners seeking to protect and market their water rights and other property interests. Early in his career, he managed LCRA’s legislative matters and its relationships with customers, communities, and local officials throughout a 58 county service area.

Lynn received his J.D. from Baylor Law School and his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the following: Communities for Recovery McLester Spirit of Recovery Award, Walt & Elspeth Rostow Award for Leadership, The Austin Project; Austinite of the Year, Austin Under 40; Distinguished Alumni Award, Leadership Austin; Community Service & “Champion”; Award, United Way/Capital Area, Legal Professionalism Award from the Texas Young Lawyers Association, and the Outstanding Senior Man Award from Vanderbilt University.
