Hey everyone,
I hope classes aren’t too spooky this week! If you weren’t able to make it to the meeting last week, swing by office hours with two canned goods so you can make up for the missed meeting point! Our next meeting will be Wednesday, November 4th at 6:00pm in WEL 1.308. If you bring $10 you can buy one of our awesome shirts, which get you an extra point every time you attend a meeting or an event while wearing it! Also, every member of ALDPES is given a certificate for being inducted into the club, so come by any office hours to pick up your certificate(s).

Social Events
This semester ALDPES has an Intramural Volleyball team! We will play on Sundays at 3:00 pm on the second floor of the REC Center. Wear your ALDPES shirt and come support your fellow ALDPES members as we go for gold (and earn a social point)!

***There will not be a game this weekend because of the holiday weekend. The next game will be on Sunday, November 8th at 3!
We will also have a profit share tomorrow, Thursday, October 29 from 6:00pm-8:00pm at Moojo. Come out and try this great new ice cream-sandwich shop with all your friends from ALDPES! You can earn extra point if you bring a friend!
ALDPES will be hosting bowling in the Union right after the next meeting November 4th starting at 7:30pm! Make sure to sign up on the link as we will have limited spots!
We will be hosting a Social at Starbucks on November 18th at 7:30pm at the Starbucks in the Union! Come out and meet other ALDPES members and get that social point before the end of the semester.
The end of the semester banquet will be on Friday, December 4th at Brick Oven’s Pizza on Red River at 7:00pm! Remember all active members will have dinner on us! Make sure to keep up with your points, stay active and come out to a social event to get your required social point!
Service Events
Letter Writing Party
We will be having a letter writing party on Tuesday, November 3rd from 4:30-5:30 in our office, UA9 2.112 (office K). Come and spend some time writing a thoughtful letter to our troops!
Caring for Camo
We will be participating in a packing party for Caring for Camo on Thursday, November 19th. This will be in the evening, exact time and location will be announced as the event gets closer.
Texas THON
Texas THON is great organization that benefits Dell Children’s Medical of Central Texas! We will be helping them out this semester in a couple of different ways. Here is a link to register with our team to help raise money! The pancake fundraiser has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 6th from 7:00pm-3:00am. There is also another opportunity to get points by participating in a fundraiser to help raise money for Texas THON (more information to come at the next meeting)!

UTALDPES Follow Train:
If you follow @UTALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. And you can also earn a half point for following utaldpes on Instagram. So, if you follow both you can earn 1 point!
Personal Statement Workshop
On October 6, 2015 from 4-5pm in CLA 0.126 there will be a personal statement workshop!
Princeton Review Half Scholarships:
We are giving away 2 Princeton Review Half Scholarships that can be used on any class!

Also, ALL ALDPES members automatically receive $200 off a course. To get the discount, you must register for the class in person at the Dobie office. The Princeton Review staff will verify your member status with Mary Bea!
Spring Study Abroad Scholarship:
If you are studying abroad in the spring, apply for a $500 scholarship!

ALD Scholarships
Graduate Student Fellowship Scholarship
Each year National Alpha Lambda Delta awards one $7,500 fellowship, eight $5,000 fellowships and fourteen $3,000 fellowships. These fellowships have been established to help qualified members obtain graduate or professional degrees.

Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship
Each year, National Alpha Lambda Delta awards 36 scholarships to outstanding undergraduate members. Only sophomores (by hours) can apply.

T-shirt special: Buy one red shirt for $10, get a blue shirt for $5! Come by any office hours to purchase shirts (remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Graduation Cords: Cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members(This is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Point Opportunities
1. MEETINGS
• Meetings are worth 1 point each
• If you miss a meeting you can make up the point by bringing two canned goods to office hours BEFORE the next meeting.
•If you wear your ALDPES shirt to a meeting you get an additionl point.
2. DRIVING TO AN EVENT
• Get 1 extra point for volunteering to drive other members who need rides to an event
• Must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point
3. EVENT PICTURES
• You may receive 1 point for turning in 8 quality photos for each service and/or social event you attend.
• You can choose to turn in a total of 16 quality photos for a maximum of 2 points per event.
4. POINT CORRECTIONS
• An updated points list will be sent out on a regular basis, to give ALDPES members a chance to check that all their points have been counted correctly. Any discrepancies or mistakes must be reported to the secretaries within two weeks of the spreadsheet being sent out. After the two-week deadline has passed, no changes can be made to those events/points.
Important Policies
1. POINT POLICY
• Of your points, in order to be considered an active member, you must have the following:
– At least 1 social point (i.e. you must attend at least one social event)
– No more than 5 donation points
• Old members need 12 points, new members need 9 points
2. CANNED GOODS POLICY
• If you miss a meeting, you can bring 2 CANNED GOODS to OFFICE HOURS to get your missed meeting point.
• You must turn in the canned goods BEFORE the next general meeting.
3. WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
• Instead of getting a ridiculous number of emails for sign-ups and meeting reminders, we will be sending out a weekly newsletter every Wednesday!
• Sign-ups and everything else you used to get weekly will be linked in the weekly emails.
