Hey everyone,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone has a fun holiday weekend and reenergizes for finals! If you missed the meeting last week be sure to come by any office hours with two canned goods before Wednesday to make up for the missed meeting point! Our next meeting will be Wednesday, December 2nd at 6:00pm in WAG 101. If you bring $10 you can buy one of our awesome shirts, which get you an extra point every time you attend a meeting or an event while wearing it! Also, every member of ALDPES is given a certificate for being inducted into the club, so come by any office hours to pick up your certificate(s).

Social Events
On the last Monday of school, November 30th we will be playing board games in the Social Officers’ office hours (Mondays 5:00-6:00pm). Come and play games with us for the last opportunity to get a social point.
The end of the semester banquet will be on Friday, December 4th at Brick Oven’s Pizza on Red River at 7:00pm! Remember all active members will have dinner on us! Make sure to keep up with your points, stay active and come out to a social event to get your required social point! The sign up to attend the banquet is here! Please sign up by 11:59 on Monday, November 30th.
Service Events
Texas THON
Texas THON is great organization that benefits Dell Children’s Medical of Central Texas! We will be helping them out this semester in a couple of different ways, one of which is by fundraising for the group. Here is a link to register with our team to help raise money!
Inside Books
Come with us to read letters from inmates requesting certain types of books, pick some out, and send them back to the inmates! Date and time will be coming soon!
Other Things
Study Hours
We will be having study hours on Tuesday, December 1st from 6:00-9:00pm in the PCL. We will be on the 5th floor again, and like last time we will announce our location once we arrive. Come and study with us! Oh, and there will be cookies!
Senior Book Award
This award goes to the graduating fall senior in ALDPES with the highest GPA. If you believe you are eligible email Mary Bea at mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for details. The deadline to apply for this award is Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59 pm.
Most Outstanding Member Award
This is a $500 award for the member with the most participation throughout the semester in ALDPES. The deadline for this award is Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59pm. Please email Mary Bea at mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for the application.
UTALDPES Follow Train:
If you follow @UTALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. And you can also earn a half point for following utaldpes on Instagram. So, if you follow both you can earn 1 point! (Points will be awarded the last week of class.)
Princeton Review Half Scholarships:
We are giving away 2 Princeton Review Half Scholarships that can be used on any class!

Also, ALL ALDPES members automatically receive $200 off a course. To get the discount, you must register for the class in person at the Dobie office. The Princeton Review staff will verify your member status with Mary Bea!
Spring/Maymester Study Abroad Scholarship:
Exciting news! The $500 Spring Study Abroad Scholarship has now been changed to include Maymester Study Abroad programs as well. As a result, the deadline has been extended to November 30th. Please email mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for the application if you are studying abroad either next spring or May.
ALD Scholarships
Graduate Student Fellowship Scholarship
Each year National Alpha Lambda Delta awards one $7,500 fellowship, eight $5,000 fellowships and fourteen $3,000 fellowships. These fellowships have been established to help qualified members obtain graduate or professional degrees.

Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship
Each year, National Alpha Lambda Delta awards 36 scholarships to outstanding undergraduate members. Only sophomores (by hours) can apply.

T-shirt special: Buy one red shirt for $10, get a blue shirt for $5! Come by any office hours to purchase shirts (remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Graduation Cords: Cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members(This is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Point Opportunities
1. MEETINGS
• Meetings are worth 1 point each
• If you miss a meeting you can make up the point by bringing two canned goods to office hours BEFORE the next meeting.
•If you wear your ALDPES shirt to a meeting you get an additionl point.
2. DRIVING TO AN EVENT
• Get 1 extra point for volunteering to drive other members who need rides to an event
• Must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point
3. EVENT PICTURES
• You may receive 1 point for turning in 8 quality photos for each service and/or social event you attend.
• You can choose to turn in a total of 16 quality photos for a maximum of 2 points per event.
4. POINT CORRECTIONS
• An updated points list will be sent out on a regular basis, to give ALDPES members a chance to check that all their points have been counted correctly. Any discrepancies or mistakes must be reported to the secretaries within two weeks of the spreadsheet being sent out. After the two-week deadline has passed, no changes can be made to those events/points.
Important Policies
1. POINT POLICY
• Of your points, in order to be considered an active member, you must have the following:
– At least 1 social point (i.e. you must attend at least one social event)
– No more than 5 donation points
• Old members need 12 points, new members need 9 points
2. CANNED GOODS POLICY
• If you miss a meeting, you can bring 2 CANNED GOODS to OFFICE HOURS to get your missed meeting point.
• You must turn in the canned goods BEFORE the next general meeting.
3. WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
• Instead of getting a ridiculous number of emails for sign-ups and meeting reminders, we will be sending out a weekly newsletter every Wednesday!
• Sign-ups and everything else you used to get weekly will be linked in the weekly emails.
