Hey everyone,
Happy last week of class! I hope everyone does well on their finals and has a great break! If you missed the meeting this week be sure to come by any office hours with two canned goods before classes end to make up for the missed meeting point! Our next meeting will be next semester! If you bring $10 you can buy one of our awesome shirts, which get you an extra point every time you attend a meeting or an event while wearing it! Also, every member of ALDPES is given a certificate for being inducted into the club, so come by any office hours to pick up your certificate(s).

Points are updated for this semester, you can check them here. If you are active, good job! If you are inactive and believe you are missing points, please email us immediately. Old members need 12 points with 1 social point, and new members need 9 points with 1 social point.

Social Events
The end of the semester banquet will be on Friday, December 4th at Brick Oven’s Pizza on Red River at 7:00pm! Remember all active members will have dinner on us! Make sure to keep up with your points, stay active and come out to a social event to get your required social point! The sign up to attend the banquet is here! Notifications about rides will be sent out on Thursday!
*If you sign up and do not show up you will still need to pay $30 whether or not you are active.
** The Princeton Review Half Scholarships, Study Abroad , Senior Book Award, and Most Outstanding Member scholarships will be announced at the banquet!
Service Events
Texas THON
Texas THON is great organization that benefits Dell Children’s Medical of Central Texas! We will be helping them out this semester in a couple of different ways, one of which is by fundraising for the group. Here is a link to register with our team to help raise money!
Other Things
By Stander Intervention Training
This is the training module covering bystander intervention that each UT club must complete. Please use the link to view the presentation and send us an email detailing the three most interesting/important facts from the presentation to receive a point. You will have until noon tomorrow, Thursday the 3rd, to do this.
MDA!
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is in need of volunteer counselors for their annual summer camp! This is a really cool opportunity to get experience working with kids who face more obstacles than others during the rest of the year, add something unique to your resume (and life experiences), and earn 167 volunteer hours. For more information you can email Sherry Humphrey at shumphrey@mdausa.org. There is also a flyer attached at the bottom of the email.
Letter Writing Party
Join us in the Texas Union Student Organization Center (4th floor of the Union in the north end of the building where the big glass doors open up into a lobby) to write letters to our troops this Thursday from 11:00-12:00pm! This will not count as a service point because it is so late in the semester, but its a great thing to do!
Senior Book Award
This award goes to the graduating fall senior in ALDPES with the highest GPA. If you believe you are eligible email Mary Bea at mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for details. The deadline to apply for this award is Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59 pm.

Most Outstanding Member Award
This is a $500 award for the member with the most participation throughout the semester in ALDPES. The deadline for this award is Thursday, December 3rd at 11:59pm. Please email Mary Bea at mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for the application.

UTALDPES Follow Train:
If you follow @UTALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. And you can also earn a half point for following utaldpes on Instagram. So, if you follow both you can earn 1 point! (Points will be awarded the last week of class.)
Princeton Review Half Scholarships:
We are giving away 2 Princeton Review Half Scholarships that can be used on any class!

Also, ALL ALDPES members automatically receive $200 off a course. To get the discount, you must register for the class in person at the Dobie office. The Princeton Review staff will verify your member status with Mary Bea!
Spring/Maymester Study Abroad Scholarship:
Exciting news! The $500 Spring Study Abroad Scholarship has now been changed to include Maymester Study Abroad programs as well. As a result, the deadline has been extended to November 30th. Please email mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for the application if you are studying abroad either next spring or May.

ALD Scholarships
Graduate Student Fellowship Scholarship
Each year National Alpha Lambda Delta awards one $7,500 fellowship, eight $5,000 fellowships and fourteen $3,000 fellowships. These fellowships have been established to help qualified members obtain graduate or professional degrees.

Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship
Each year, National Alpha Lambda Delta awards 36 scholarships to outstanding undergraduate members. Only sophomores (by hours) can apply.

T-shirt special: Buy one red shirt for $10, get a blue shirt for $5! Come by any office hours to purchase shirts (remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Graduation Cords: Cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members(This is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Point Opportunities
1. MEETINGS
• Meetings are worth 1 point each
• If you miss a meeting you can make up the point by bringing two canned goods to office hours BEFORE the next meeting.
•If you wear your ALDPES shirt to a meeting you get an additionl point.
2. DRIVING TO AN EVENT
• Get 1 extra point for volunteering to drive other members who need rides to an event
• Must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point
3. EVENT PICTURES
• You may receive 1 point for turning in 8 quality photos for each service and/or social event you attend.
• You can choose to turn in a total of 16 quality photos for a maximum of 2 points per event.
4. POINT CORRECTIONS
• An updated points list will be sent out on a regular basis, to give ALDPES members a chance to check that all their points have been counted correctly. Any discrepancies or mistakes must be reported to the secretaries within two weeks of the spreadsheet being sent out. After the two-week deadline has passed, no changes can be made to those events/points.
Important Policies
1. POINT POLICY
• Of your points, in order to be considered an active member, you must have the following:
– At least 1 social point (i.e. you must attend at least one social event)
– No more than 5 donation points
• Old members need 12 points, new members need 9 points
2. CANNED GOODS POLICY
• If you miss a meeting, you can bring 2 CANNED GOODS to OFFICE HOURS to get your missed meeting point.
• You must turn in the canned goods BEFORE the next general meeting.
3. WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
• Instead of getting a ridiculous number of emails for sign-ups and meeting reminders, we will be sending out a weekly newsletter every Wednesday!
• Sign-ups and everything else you used to get weekly will be linked in the weekly emails.
