Hey members,
I hope everyone is having a good week so far! If you weren’t able to make it to the meeting last week be sure to bring two donations from the GMT donations list to any office hours to make up for the missed meeting point. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, April 20th, 2016 at 6:00 pm in CMA 2.306 (This is the auditorium in the basement of CMA.) If you bring $10 you can buy one of our awesome shirts, which get you an extra point every time you attend a meeting or an event while wearing it! Also, every member of ALDPES is given a certificate for being inducted into the club, so come by any office hours to pick up your certificate(s).

Social Events
Intramurals
Our last game is this evening at 9:15 pm in Rec Center (not Gregory Gym) on court 2! Be sure to wear your red shirt! Come out and cheer us on in our last game and earn a social point!
There are only two social events remaining (you need a social point to be considered active before banquet):
End of the Year Party
ALDPES is having a pool party on Friday, April 22nd from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Gregory Gym pool! There will be pizza and some desserts, so come socialize at our end of the year pool party! The sign up to attend is here!
Coffee at the Union
Since many people have exams coming up, our last social event will be Starbucks in the Union on Monday, April 25th from 7:30- 8:00 pm. Come out and earn a social point and get a boost before a night of studying! *This is the LAST social of the semester
Banquet at Macaroni Grill
Banquet will be Friday, May 6th at 7:00 pm at Macaroni Grill in the Arboretum! Dinner will be free for all ACTIVE members. Updates about status as an active or inactive member will be sent out in the April 20th newsletter, and there will be no more point opportunities after May 4th.
Service Events
Art in the Park
We will be participating in Art in the Park on Friday, April 15th from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center. This is an opportunity to work with children of all abilities on art projects downtown! This event will be in shifts and we will organize rides but you can also take the MetroRapid. Sign up here!
Honors Day
Honors Day is Saturday, April 16th from 12:30 – 4:00 pm. We are the only organization that is asked to help with this event, so it is a big deal. The link to sign up to volunteer at Honors Day is here!
Honors Day Selfie: If you take a selfie at Honors Day and post it to Twitter or Instagram and tag @utaldpes you can earn an extra point!
Other Things
Officer Applications are out!
Officer applications for next year are now available. The application is due at 5:00 pm on Friday, April 22nd. Emails about interviews will be sent out on the 23rd.Included is also a power point with descriptions of each officer position! Old and new members are encouraged to apply! If you have any questions email us or stop by office hours!
Officer Info Session:
Do you have questions about any of the officer poistions or what it takes to be an officer for ALDPES? We will be having an info session from 5:00 – 6:00 pm Wednesday, April 20th (before the next general meeting)in UA9 2.108 (this is the same building as our office.)
Bridging the Gap: Silent Auction
This is the first ever ALDPES Bridging the Gap which is aimed at increasing accessibility to education in different spaces including Austin, the US and abroad.The proceeds for this event are going to support Steve Biko organization to help lower income Afro-Brazilians who are underrepresented in college education. The silent auction will take place on April 28th from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Eastwoods Room of the Union. We will be in need of volunteers for the event, so be on the lookout for sign ups!
Brave the Shave/St. Baldrick’s Foundation
You can help fight pediatric cancer by using the following link to donate money to the St. Baldrick’s foundation. Every $5.00 donation will earn you one point, up to a total for five points (feel free to donate more than that though if you have the means and feel passionate about the cause though!) Meebs will be able to see who donates through the link, so be sure to put the name you use for ALDPES! Here is the link!
Study Hours
We will be having study hours on Sunday, April 17th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm in the PCL 5.524. Come and study with your fellow ALDPES members, earn points, and eat some cookies!
Princeton Review Half Scholarships
We are giving away 4 this semester. Deadline: April 25th at 12pm

*All ALDPES members automatically receive $200 off a course. To get the discount, you must register for the class in person at the Dobie office. The Princeton Review staff will verify your member status with me!
Senior Book Award
This award goes to the graduating senior in ALDPES with highest GPA. If you believe you are eligible for this award email Mary Bea at mary.bea.carstens@utexas.edu for details. The deadline to apply is Monday, May 2nd at 11:59 pm.
Writing Resumes and Cover Letters Workshop
There will be a workshop over how to write a resume and cover letter on April 29th at 4:00 pm in the PCL Learning Lab 2.
Most Outstanding Member Award:
Have you been really active/are you planning on being active in ALDPES this semester? Then apply for the Most Outstanding Member Award! The award is worth $500 for the member with overall greatest participation and commitment.
*Apply closer to the deadline to have the best chance of receiving the award because points matter!

By Stander Intervention Training
This is the training module covering bystander intervention that each UT club must complete. Please use the link to view the presentation and send us an email detailing the three most interesting/important facts from the presentation to receive a point.
Scrapbook
We are currently working on the scrapbook for ALDPES this year. If you send in 8 pictures from an ALDPES event you can receive one point. You can also send in 4 pictures for half of a point or send in a quote (2-3 sentences) about any ALDPES event to earn half of a point.
UTALDPES Follow Train:
If you follow @UTALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. And you can also earn a half point for following utaldpes on Instagram. So, if you follow both you can earn 1 point! (Points will be awarded the last week of class.)
T-shirt special: Buy one red shirt for $10, get a blue shirt for $5! Come by any office hours to purchase shirts (remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Graduation Cords: Cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members(This is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Come by any office hours to purchase (remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Point Opportunities
1. MEETINGS
• Meetings are worth 1 point each
• If you miss a meeting you can make up the point by bringing two canned goods to office hours BEFORE the next meeting.
•If you wear your ALDPES shirt to a meeting you get an additionl point.
2. DRIVING TO AN EVENT
• Get 1 extra point for volunteering to drive other members who need rides to an event
• Must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point
3. EVENT PICTURES
• You may receive 1 point for turning in 8 quality photos for each service and/or social event you attend.
• You can choose to turn in a total of 16 quality photos for a maximum of 2 points per event.
4. POINT CORRECTIONS
• An updated points list will be sent out on a regular basis, to give ALDPES members a chance to check that all their points have been counted correctly. Any discrepancies or mistakes must be reported to the secretaries within two weeks of the spreadsheet being sent out. After the two-week deadline has passed, no changes can be made to those events/points.
Important Policies
1. POINT POLICY
• Of your points, in order to be considered an active member, you must have the following:
-At least 1 service point (i.e. you must attend at least one service event)
– At least 1 social point (i.e. you must attend at least one social event)
– No more than 5 donation points
• Old members need 12 points, new members need 9 points
2. GMT DONATION POLICY
• If you miss a meeting, you can bring items from the GMT donation list to OFFICE HOURS to get your missed meeting point.
• You must turn in the items BEFORE the next general meeting.
•Missed Meeting Points:
You need to bring 1 bottle of medicine to make up for a missed meeting point.
Or you can bring 2 of the other items (ex. toothbrush, toys, glasses, etc.)
• Donation Points (you can only receive up to 5 donation points):
2 Medicines for 1 donation point
Or you can bring 3 of the other items to receive 1 donation point (ex. toothbrush, toys, glasses, etc.)
• Items needed:
Medicines- Kids Multivitamins, Adult Multivitamins, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, tums, antidiarrheal, children’s motrin, prenatal, vitamin C, iron, b complex,
Other Items- Stickers, small cars, coloring books, Crayons and small toys (cars, barbies, etc). And also eyeglasses (the pre made prescription ones you can buy at any convenient or grocery store), toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss.
3. WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
• Instead of getting a ridiculous number of emails for sign-ups and meeting reminders, we will be sending out a weekly newsletter every Wednesday!
• Sign-ups and everything else you used to get weekly will be linked in the weekly emails.
