ALDPES NEWSLETTER

Wednesday, September 21st, 2016

Alpha Lambda Delta | Phi Eta Sigma

The University of Texas at Austin Chapter

Hey members,

How about that meeting? First pizza meeting of the year. Probably not the last. Did you know we could have active members already? Passage of time is real. [Undisclosed Sport] team is still taking suggestions. Just fill out a survey to express your interest and decide the future sport of ALDPES Here! It’s also too late to redeem yourself for missing the first meeting of the year. That ship has sailed, landed, burned at the beach under suspicious circumstances and had its ashes used to help trees grow. Fortunately, those trees have been turned into another ship that’s accepting donations for missing this week’s meeting! Just bring two items from the GMT donation list below during office hours before the next meeting! Our next meeting will be Wednesday, October 5th, 2016 at 6:00 pm in CAL 100 (South of the Tower). Hope to see you all there.

Best,

Christian Rivera

Phi Eta Sigma Secretary

Fun Fact of the Week: If you try holding a quarter so that the heads side is facing you and move it progressively towards one of your eyes while the other eye is closed, you eventually won’t be able to see past the quarter. This is because people have not developed the ability to see through quarters.

Guest Speakers of the Week

Research Student Advisory Council- Deadline Soon

The council is looking for new undergraduate members, and their application has just opened. All majors are welcome! The application is found Here! It is due September 23rd! RSAC is dedicated to improving the undergraduate research experience across all colleges at UT. Specifically, RSAC advises the Office of Undergraduate Research and communicates the needs of UT’s student researchers. Members of RSAC meet twice a month to discuss innovative avenues and opportunities for student research. RSAC also facilitates independent member projects including outreach initiatives and event planning. As a result, RSAC has many leadership opportunities available for motivated members. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact RSAC at researchstudentadvisorycouncil@gmail.com.

Texas 4000- Deadline Kind of Soon

Frustrated by cancer to the point that you felt like biking to Alaska from Austin, but then thought better of it about 19 miles outside of the city because you did not know how that could help stop cancer or how to get to Alaska? We’ve all been there. Texas 4000 is forming teams for bike rides from Austin to Alaska to raise money for cancer research! Applications are due September 30th and can be found on their website Here. No fitness, training, geography, cartography, or even bike skills required to apply!

Think you have really good taste in books but always wanted to prove it with a captive audience? On October 16, 2016 from 7:00-10:00 ALDPES will be volunteering at Inside Books, a non-profit organization that matches prisoners with books! First, you read letters from prisoners detailing their dream books. Then you gather books from a donated library to achieve those dreams! (1 BOOK + 1 BOOK = 1 POINT)

Speculative Opportunity to Help Animals
