Hey ALDPES-ers,
Following the success of the ALDPES bonanza of a week ago, we have what some enthusiasts are calling an ALDPES-palooza coming up this weekend! Come out this weekend for karaoke on Friday, Special Olympics on Saturday, and a profit share on Sunday.
Scholarships are also available now! To apply for any awards, please download the document, fill it out, and email it to the ALDPES account.
Aside from that, thank you again to everyone who regularly attends our meetings and events. It’s great to get to know y’all!
Best,
Alan Stepchinski

We will have more information about volunteering with them next semester, but feel free to check them out here if you’re interested in learning more.
Princeton Review – 10/18
This week Charity came to talk to us about the Princeton Review, so if you’re thinking about grad school, or taking any of the MCAT, LSAT, GMAT type tests, feel free to reach out to her at Charity.Lee@review.com. Also, don’t forget as an ALD/PES member, you get discounts on any practice courses or consultations you have with them, and will be eligible for scholarships later in the semester! If you would like to take advantage of any of these benefits, email utaldpes@gmail.com for more info.
Teach for America – 10/18
Jorge from Teach for America also talked with us this week about his awesome organization of leaders who commit to teaching in low-income schools and work to increase opportunities for students. Other Things
Scrapbook
We are always working on the scrapbook for ALDPES. If you attend any event this semester or cherish a specific meeting speaker/ice breaker, email ALDPES your pictures and captions! You will receive one point for sending in either two pictures with a caption or four pictures total.
UTALDPES Follow Train
If you follow @TXALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. You can also earn a half point for following txaldpes on Instagram. Put them both together, and you earn yourself a whole point! Just email our account with your usernames during the last few weeks of class.
Retro ALDPES T-shirts
We are still selling red shirts for $10 but only have L and XL left. (Sadly, only treasurers can accept cash, but any officer can take check or credit card.) Wearing a shirt to any event will earn you an extra point, so these help a lot in becoming active.
Graduation Cords
If you’re really ahead of the game, cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members (this is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Come by any office hours to purchase. (Remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Credit Cards
Stop by any of the officer’s office hours to pay by credit card for all your ALDPES purchasing needs. Be warned: there is a convenience fee! Prices (subject to change) for payment by credit cards are $10.28 per shirt, $13.37 per cord if you’re active, or $26.74 for both cords, and $18.51 per cord if you’re inactive, or $37.02 for both cords.
Point Opportunities
1. MEETINGS
• Meetings are worth 1 point each.
• If you wear your ALDPES shirt to a meeting you get an additional point.
2. DRIVING TO AN EVENT
• Get 1 extra point for volunteering to drive other members who need rides to an event.
• You must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point.
• If you sign up to drive and fail to show up, you will lose a point!
3. EVENT PICTURES
• Earn 1 point for submitting 4 pictures from an event.
• Or, earn 1 point for submitting 2 pictures with a caption from an event!
4. POINT CORRECTIONS
• An updated points list will be sent out on a regular basis to give ALDPES members a chance to check that all their points have been counted correctly. Any discrepancies or mistakes must be reported to the secretary within two weeks of the spreadsheet being sent out. After the two-week deadline has passed, no changes can be made to those events/points.
Important Policies
1. POINT POLICY

– At least 1 service point (i.e. you must attend at least one service event)
– At least 1 social point (i.e. you must attend at least one social event)
– At least 1 miscellaneous point (we recommend study hours or workshops, but a separate social or service event can count as well)
• Old members need 12 points, new members need 9 points
2. DONATION POLICY
• We are looking into this policy for this year. More details in the next newsletter.
3. WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
