Alpha Lambda Delta | Phi Eta Sigma
The University of Texas at Austin Chapter
Hey ALDPES-ers,
We only have a few more weeks to become active, so make sure you get your points in soon! As of now, we have 1 social and 2 service events left. All members need 12 points total with 1 social, 1 service, and 1 miscellaneous point to be active.
Our next meeting is next Wednesday, November 15th in PAI 3.02 (This is a new meeting location, so don’t show up to the FAC)! We will have Gigglepants, an improv group at UT, at the next meeting, so don’t miss it!
Best,
Alan Stepchinski
Alpha Lambda Delta President
Previous Guest Speakers
Miracle League – 11/1
Our Pillars Coordinator, Rey Laurencio, gave a presentation about Miracle League! This organization helps children with disabilities play baseball games on the weekends, and the volunteers are really fantastic people. We will have more information about volunteering with them next semester, but feel free to check them out here if you’re interested in learning more.
Princeton Review – 10/18
Charity came to talk to us about the Princeton Review, so if you’re thinking about grad school, or taking any of the MCAT, LSAT, GMAT type tests, feel free to reach out to her at Charity.Lee@review.com. Also, don’t forget as an ALD/PES member, you get discounts on any practice courses or consultations you have with them, and will be eligible for scholarships later in the semester! If you would like to take advantage of any of these benefits, email utaldpes@gmail.com for more info.
Teach for America – 10/18
Jorge from Teach for America also talked with us on October 18th about his awesome organization of leaders who commit to teaching in low-income schools and work to increase opportunities for students. If you want more information, you can reach out to Jorge at Jorge.Galan@teachforamerica.org. If you are interested in applying, check out this website https://www.teachforamerica.org/user/register.
Miscellaneous Events
How to Talk About Yourself Workshop- Friday November 17th, 3-4pm, PCL 5.102A
Do you find interviews, applications, and personal essays awkward? Well once again ALD/PES is here to help with all of your personal/professional development needs! Join us at this workshop to get some pro advice on learning how to identify, write about, and talk about the skills you have gained in your college experiences. Also, there will be food and it will be delicious. (Pssst, workshop is conveniently right before the ALD/PES scholarship due date! I wonder if they planned it like that or something…)
Study Hours – November 28th from 5-8pm in PCL
The exact time and date for the next session of study hours is not set in stone, so check next week’s newsletter for a confirmed room and time! Matthew may or may not bring food.
New t-shirts
Our brand-new ALDPES t-shirts are in!!!!! See the front of the shirt here and the back here. Shirts are $15, and you can buy them at office hours or the general meetings. We have sizes S-3XL.
I also want to give a shout to last year’s Historian, Alex Roper, for designing this awesome shirt!!
Points
Points are here! Points will probably be updated on Fridays, so don’t panic if your points haven’t shown up and it’s only been a few days. If you have any issues with the points sheet, just email the ALDPES account and include “Points” in the subject of the email.
We will be adding people to the sheet as you earn points; you won’t be on the sheet if you haven’t earned any points yet.

If you follow @TXALDPES on Twitter you can earn a half point. You can also earn a half point for following txaldpes on Instagram. Put them both together, and you earn yourself a whole point! Just email our account with your usernames during the last few weeks of class.
Retro ALDPES T-shirts
We are still selling red shirts for $10 but only have L and XL left. (Sadly, only treasurers can accept cash, but any officer can take check or credit card.) Wearing a shirt to any event will earn you an extra point, so these help a lot in becoming active.
Graduation Cords
If you’re really ahead of the game, cords are $26 for active members and $36 for inactive members (this is for both ALD and PES; individually cords are $13 for active members and $18 for inactive members). Come by any office hours to purchase. (Remember cash can only be accepted at the Treasurers’ office hours though!)
Credit Cards
Stop by any of the officer’s office hours to pay by credit card for all your ALDPES purchasing needs. Be warned: there is a convenience fee! Prices (subject to change) for payment by credit cards are $10.28 per shirt, $13.37 per cord if you’re active, or $26.74 for both cords, and $18.51 per cord if you’re inactive, or $37.02 for both cords.

• You must tell the officer in charge if you can drive BEFORE the event to get a point.
