Dell Med is seeking ambitious, innovative individuals to collaborate with faculty and staff on efforts tied to the school’s work in health care transformation. The application for the Summer 2018 apprenticeship opens on March 26.

Each student proposes, designs and implements a project or opts to join a current project of the school aimed at improving health in the local community. Housing, travel reimbursement, parking and compensation are not provided.
Other components of the apprenticeship include:
- Academic poster creation and presentation;
- Professional development through workshops taught by health experts and community leaders;
- Networking with other apprentices and members of the Dell Med team;
- Mentoring from world-class leaders in health innovation; and,
- Community service project opportunities.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the experience, apprentices will be able to:
- Describe the principles of improving health in the community in keeping with the mission of Dell Med;
- Explain how a focus on comprehensive care contributes to improved health outcomes;
- Demonstrate how design thinking methodologies, project management skills, communication techniques and analytical thinking can advance health innovation;
- Demonstrate leadership skills pertinent to the health environment; and,
- Describe how to creatively approach unstructured problems and ambiguity in the health environment.
Eligibility
The apprenticeship is open to undergraduate and graduate students at UT Austin who are interested in health care delivery, public health, health management or health policy. Graduates of UT Austin may also apply if they graduated no earlier than December 2015. Participation in events such as a welcome celebration, poster presentation and two professional development workshops is mandatory.
