SIAM Conference on Computational and Mathematical Issues on the Geosciences

I arrived at SFO on last Saturday June 27th and got on Caltrain to Palo Alto for the SIAM GS Conference on Computational and Mathematical Issues on the Geosciences.

Today is the second day of the conference before which, on Sunday June 28th I attended three short courses: Interactive Data Visualization, GPU CUDA C++, and Intro to Machine Learning. I find GPU CUDA acceleration extremely useful and applicable to my current undergraduate research on parallelizing greedy coordinate descent method for QP. Instead of CPU parallelism with OpenMP, I may think about using basic SAXPY algorithm to parallelize my “for loops”. I learned routines and API in the interactive lab “Qwik Lab” including error checking GPU code, Data Management with Unified Memory, and Querying GPU devices for capabilities…
