Lab Members

Francesca Samsel
Research Scientist / Principal Investigator

Francesca Samsel is a Research Scientist in the Texas Advanced Computing Center at the University of Texas at Austin. She received an M.F.A. from the University of Washington and a B.F.A. from the California College of Art. Multidisciplinary collaboration between the arts, sciences and visualization form the core of her research, specifically, identifying artistic principles and expertise with potential to assist scientists in their scientific inquiries. She works in collaboration with computational teams at Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Texas Advanced Computing Center, and the University of Minnesota, Interactive Visualization Laboratory. She is a member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Computer Graphics and Application, as well as on the program committee for IEEE Vis, Visual Arts Program.

Greg Abram
Research Scientist / Principal Investigator

Greg joined the Texas Advanced Computing Center in August 2009. He is a key employee in Research and Development in large-data scientific visualization. Before coming to TACC, he worked at the IBM TJ Watson Research Center.

Jung Who Nam
Postdoctoral Sudent

As a postdoctoral fellow at the Texas Advanced Computing Center, Jung works on developing annotated, key-framed story-line visualization and gesture-based interaction frameworks with large-format displays.

In July 2022, he graduated from a PhD program at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. His advisor was Daniel Keefe who leads the Interactive Visualization Lab. Aside from my PhD, from 2019 to 2022, Jung was in South Korea doing mandatory military service. In replacement of the service, he has been part of Korea Culture Technology and Institute, where he developed interactive installations for museum visitors to learn about historical data using full-body gestures.

Jung's research interests include scientific visualization, immersive analytics, and data storytelling. He am particularly interested in novel visualization and interaction methods that support exploration and collaboration around spatial 3D data visualization.

Stephanie Zeller
PhD Student

Stephanie Zeller is a researcher, artist, and writer studying climate change visualization and epistemology + communication in diverse publics as a Geography MA + PhD student the University of Texas at Austin. Zeller graduated from UT Austin with degrees in Public Relations and Studio Art and minors in Business and Spanish in 2020. Prior experience in science communication and writing includes the Texas Health Journal, NASA's Johnson Space Center, NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), StarDate Magazine and Radio, Los Alamos National Labs, Get Us PPE, and more.
