This fall, Dr. Hannah Lewis from Center for American Music is offering a seminar on the topic of Historiographies of U.S. Music. It covers a range of topics and themes and investigates the following questions:
- How has U.S. music been defined, and how has its scope and boundaries shifted over time?
- What methodologies and discourses should an “Americanist” be familiar with today?
- How do discourses of U.S. music overlap or intersect with other discourses?
- In other words, what does it mean to study U.S. (“American”) music today?
