Can Kilic was born in Turkey. He completed a bachelor of science degree in physics at the Bogazici (Bosphorus) University in 2000 and then moved to the US for graduate school. He completed his PhD at Harvard University under the supervision of Nima Arkani-Hamed in 2006. He held postdoctoral positions at the Johns Hopkins University (2006-09) and at Rutgers University (2009-11). He became a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin in 2011, with a promotion to associate professor with tenure in 2017 and to professor in 2024. He is a member of the Theory Group at the Weinberg Institute for Theoretical Physics.
The research of Can Kilic is focused on extensions of the Standard Model of particle physics with an emphasis on experimental signatures. Specifically, he works on model-building, collider physics, particle astrophysics and early universe cosmology.
