Research Area:
Dr. Tanya Coakley is a Professor and Associate Dean for Community Climate and Care at The University of Texas at Austin School of Nursing. In 2004, she earned a Ph.D. in Social Work and a Minor in Statistics from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Her research expertise is in quality foster care, effective transcultural parenting, father involvement, parent-child health communication, minority health disparities, risky sexual behavior in youth, quantitative assessment, and mentoring underrepresented faculty in research and leadership. She has received a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development R15 grant to investigate fathers and sons' communication to prevent sexual health risks in boys.
