To join my research group as a student, you may apply through either the:
- Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Science (CSE)
- Nuclear and Radiation Engineering (NRE) area within the Mechanical Engineering (ME) Department
For PhD students who have no Master’s degree and will be located in Austin, the coursework is relatively similar, with the primary difference being the Qualifying Exam taken:
For students who already have a Master’s degree, there is substantially less coursework required by ME, but the specific curriculum would depend on the particular student and research topic.
To obtain an NRE Master’s degree, six “regular” classes and two “Thesis writing” classes are required and can generally be taken from the list of Oden and ME courses listed above.
For students who plan to get a degree entirely remotely, the CSE courses are generally not available to be taken online. Therefore, the coursework is much more nuclear-centric and the research topics will likely be more analytical than theoretical.
