Movie for δ(1,1,1) Crushing on the Random Foam

Stelios Kyriakides, Research

Abstract

The movie presents an equi-triaxial crushing on a micro-structural accurate model of Al-alloy foam of relative density 8%. This is performed in the numerical true triaxial loading apparatus shown in Yang and Kyriakides, 2019. The true stress-displacement responses at left exhibit the same characteristics observed in uniaxial compression: they exhibit initial linear stiff branches that terminate into stress maxima, subsequently load plateaus followed by stiff ascending branches. Deformations at x-y plane shown at right starts from uniform deformation, followed by localized crushing that gradually move inwards until the whole domain is crushed. What we see in the x-y plane is representative of what is happening in the other two planes also.
