Kathleen Gerson is Collegiate Professor of Sociology at NYU, where she is a recognized authority on gender, work, and family change. Her most recent book, The Unfinished Revolution: Coming of Age in a New Era of Gender, Work, and Family, is an award-winning study of how new generations have responded to the gender revolution of the last several decades. She is now studying how today’s adults are navigating the increasingly uncertain occupational and family waters of the new economy. Her other books include Hard Choices: How Women Decide About Work, Career, and Motherhood, No Man’s Land: Men’s Changing Commitments to Family and Work, and The Time Divide: Work, Family, and Gender Inequality (with Jerry Jacobs).
Gerson is a past board member of Council on Contemporary Families, a founding board member of Work-Family Researchers Network, a Co-President of Sociologists for Women in Society, and Vice President Elect of American Sociological Association. A recipient of the ASA’s Jessie Bernard Award for distinguished contributions to the study of women and gender and the Eastern Sociological Society Distinguished Merit Award, she has held visiting positions at the Stanford Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the Russell Sage Foundation, and the University of Bremen Institute for the Study of Status Passages in the Life Course .
