We live in the medium of place. Our experience is the color and mark. A random house to one is a beloved grandmother’s home to another. Its bricks and mortar could be a political statement. Its garden could be a reminder to stay in the moment.
Organized in this corridor is a collection of subjective places: There Here. Memories, identities, and ideas are evoked in beaches, stoops, facades, sock drawers, walls, gardens, and cosmic maps.
All works are by recent studio art graduates of the University of Texas at Austin. They summon places to declare who they are and what they value as they posit where they may yet go—nostalgia in the crux of possibility.
Organized by Phillip Niemeyer with Rachael Starbuck, Hunter Thomas, and Kaya Sumer.
