The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is proud to be hosting the Pharmacy Leadership Symposium and Workshops.
The program was developed to help meet a need among pharmacists and healthcare professionals who are interested in advancing their personal leadership skills and in creating their own professional development and advancement plan.
Workshops are customized to the target group. UT Austin faculty guide participants through individual leadership self-assessment process designed to help professionals gain a better understanding of their own personal strengths, skills, and development. From there, participants attend live workshops on targeted skill building. Working through cohort groups, participants custom a continuing professional development plan to help them through the next stage of their healthcare careers.

Workshop Goals and Content Description
Knowledge of Self
To foster a sense of self through introspection, reflection and understanding of personal and leadership strengths, skills, personality, and career fit. Participants will engage in a variety of personal reflection and introspection exercises online prior to attending the Symposium, then dig deep in personal understanding on the first day of the event.
Life-Long Continuing Professional Development
To establish personal continuing professional development portfolios and objectives for personal and professional growth. Participants will engage in reflection exercises and develop a working understanding of how to become successful users of the continuing professional development process. This process will be linked to the full program, and help participants develop skills for life-long learning and development to last beyond this symposium.
Healthcare and the Future
To explore and understand the current state of healthcare in the United States, and discuss the issues and opportunities coming to healthcare in the future. Participants will learn about current trends, data sources, and potential changes coming to the healthcare marketplace, then explore how these factors may impact their practice, future goals and professional development. From this data, participants will declare areas which they desire to impact, and join cohort groups of like-minded professionals.
Leadership Skills
To expand and develop leadership skills needed for future leaders to impact the change they seek. During the second day, participants will delve into leadership theory and content designed to help them improve their critical leadership thinking and decision making. Participants will work with their cohort groups to engage leadership skills in applicable case study topics.
To Give and Receive Feedback
To give and receive constructive and useful feedback regarding their leadership and communication skills and those of colleagues. Participants will explore concepts around communication and critical feedback, and will utilize these skills throughout the program, providing feedback and receive feedback from their cohort members. The program will move beyond discussions and presentations around communication skills and effective feedback, but will challenge participants to learn how to provide and absorb critical feedback that is measurable and useful for self-improvement.
A Commitment to Improve
To commit to improvement through the development of personal continuing education plans of action, and follow through on their commitment. The Symposium will conclude with participants developing their own personal “next-steps” in the process of their leadership development. Participants will be asked to declare publicly their goals to their cohort groups, as well as declare ways they will be held accountable for their plans. Cohorts will be encouraged to stay in contact through the next ten months as a means of support. Participants will be invited to attend, either in person or virtually, to reconnect in November of 2018 during the College’s 125 celebration to assess their plan and development.
