Presentation: Forensic Psychiatry: The Journey to Competency Restoration
Andrea J. Wright, MD graduate from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelors in psychology. She then attended medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. She stayed at UTMB for her Adult Psychiatric residency. From there she moved back to Austin to complete a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship with what was then the University of Texas, Southwestern at Austin Residency Programs. She concluded her psychiatric training in 2014 after completing a Forensic Psychiatric fellowship at Emory in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Wright moved back to Austin and began working a contract psychiatrist for Austin State Hospital and Seton Medical Center. Prior to moving to ASH full time in 2016, she worked at the Seton Shoal Creek child and adolescent in-patient unit as well as the Seton Psychiatric Emergency Department. Since joining ASH full time she has worked on a competency to stand trial restoration unit and has intermittently taken on a CAPs case. Dr. Wright is also an affiliate faculty member of the UT-Dell Psychiatry Department. In this role she hosts the psychiatric residents for their forensic rotation.
