Presentation: Clinical Myths and Anecdotes in Psychopharmacology
After graduating with her Pharm.D. degree, Dr. Smith completed a psychiatric pharmacy practice residency (1998-1999) and clinical sciences fellowship in mental health outcomes (1999-2001) at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy. She has been a board certified psychiatric pharmacist since 2001. Currently, she serves as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry for The University of Texas at Austin, Dell Medical School (DMS) and maintains an adjunct faculty appointment with the College of Pharmacy. Prior to her recent move to DMS, she served as a Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist for the Seton Healthcare Network for 10 years. Dr. Smith has provided didactic lectures to medical students and residents, advanced practice nursing students, PhD psychology students, social work interns, PharmD students and residents and pharmacy practice graduate students for over 19 years. She is one of the core faculty for the DMS psychiatry residency program and in 2014 was the recipient Psychiatry Residency Program Faculty of the Year award. She has also delivered numerous CE presentations to social workers, nurses, pharmacists and physicians at local, state and national conferences throughout her career. She has over 50 published abstracts, peer reviewed articles and book chapters in the area of psychiatric pharmacy. Dr. Smith currently practices at Seton Shoal Creek Hospital where she runs the psychopharmacology consult service. She also has a practice in the Seton Mind Institute Geriatric Psychiatry Clinic and the Women’s Mental Health Clinic.
