The “Learn Russian in the European Union” project in Daugavpils, Latvia, provides fully tailored Russian overseas language and cultural immersion programs, academic semester and summer programs of different levels in the Russian language, literature, culture, Baltic, East European, post-Soviet studies, and EU-Russia relations.

Daugavpils, the second largest city of Latvia, probably, is “the most Russian” city in the European Union. Nearly everyone here speaks standard modern Russian as their native or primary language.

The “Learn Russian in the EU” is a joint effort of two accredited educational institutions:
– Department of Russian and Slavic Linguistics at Daugavpils University;
– Training Center LatInSoft.

Daugavpils University, established in 1921, is the major academic and research institution in Eastern Latvia. The Department of Russian and Slavic Linguistics has a long tradition of research and instruction of the Russian language and literature to international students, teachers, philologists and linguists. There are 12 faculty members with Doctoral degree and 4 professors at the Department.

Daugavpils University provides academic semester and summer programs of any level in the Russian language, literature, culture, Baltic, East European, and post-Soviet studies. Supplementary courses in history, languages, biology, math, physics, etc., are also available on an individual plan in English or Russian at student’s choice. Credit points are available under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and can be accepted by most US universities.
