Acad. Job: Full-time Russian Instructor

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time instructor of Russian position to begin August 10, 2020. The initial appointment will be for 3 years. 4/4 teaching load. Priority will be given to applicants able to teach Kazakh language and culture.

Requirements include: 1) MA or equivalent by time of appointment in Russian language, literature, culture, language pedagogy, second language acquisition, or related field; 2) evidence of successful teaching of Russian at a US university; 3) commitment to proficiency-based and communicative approaches to teaching language. 4) Native or near-native proficiency in Russian and English.

The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal background check. Occasional travel to national conferences may be required.

Acad. Job: Mellon Assistant Professor of Russian and East European Studies – Vanderbilt University

The Department of German, Russian and East European Studies at Vanderbilt University invites applications from all humanistic and social science disciplines for the position of Mellon Assistant Professor of Russian and East European Studies (non-tenure-track, 3-year appointment, 2-2 load). The department seeks a candidate with an innovative scholarly research agenda and a commitment to undergraduate education. Applications are particularly welcome from scholars whose research investigates twentieth or twenty-first century Soviet or post-Soviet Russia within the broader context of the East European or Eurasian regions.

Applicants must have received their Ph.D. no more than four years prior to the start of the position. Interviews will be conducted by Zoom in May 2020. The successful candidate will begin in August 2020 or January 2021.

Russian Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship at Indiana University-Bloomington

The Russian Studies Workshop (RSW) at Indiana University’s Russian and East European Institute (REEI) and Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral fellowship beginning August 1, 2020. Applicants should be scholars conducting research on Russia while contributing to interdisciplinary and international debates. Special consideration will be given to scholars who have conducted extensive research and have strong Russian language skills. The fellowship is $50,000/year and includes benefits.

Requirements

The postdoctoral fellow will teach one course per year; importantly, after teaching this course, the finished syllabus and auxiliary materials (handouts, course packets, etc.) will be shared with HLS at the end of the fellowship. The fellow is expected to maintain a vigorous research program during the fellowship, and actively participate in the RSW, including leading a monthly writing group for Russian Studies PhD students. Fellows are required to be in residence in Bloomington, Indiana.
